Nina Buxenbaum was born and raised in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, in a multiracial and politically active family.\u00a0 As a biracial woman, she addresses themes of race and identity in her work, particularly in her Topsy-Turvy doll paintings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Buxenbaum received her BFA in Drawing and Printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis, and her MFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art.\u00a0 She was awarded residencies in France and the U.S., among them the Skowhegan School, Artists Alliance, and Vermont Studio Center.\u00a0 Her work has been exhibited at the Studio Museum of Harlem, the Slater Museum, The Painting Center, Kentler International Drawing Space, the Sampson Projects, and many other galleries.\u00a0 She has been reviewed in the International Review of African American Art.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Buxenbam is an Associate Professor at York College, CUNY, and is Coordinator of the Fine Arts Discipline in the Department of Performing and Fine Arts.\u00a0 She maintains her studio practice in Brooklyn, NY and Bethel, CT.<\/p>\n
