She received her BFA from the Art Institute of Boston and also studied at Yale Norfolk School of Art. She earned her MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>Pierce\u2019s paintings explore relationships between light, time, and perception. In a 2018 interview, she said, \u201cI\u00a0paint during all times of the day, preferring daylight, and use the changes in light as it happens.\u00a0In the process . . . I\u00a0paint both towards understanding what I\u00a0see and away from it until things are brought to a heightened experiential intensity and have a\u00a0hallucinatory sensation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie\u2019s work is represented by Alpha Gallery in Boston and Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in NYC. With numerous exhibitions throughout the U.S. since 1993, her work has been published and reviewed in the <em>New Yorker Magazine, Harper\u2019s Magazine, Hyperallergic, <\/em>and the<em> Boston Globe, <\/em>among others<em>.<\/em> Collections include William Dreyfus, Boston Public Library, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Stephanie received a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in 2014, and a Peter S. Reid Foundation grant in 2018. For 10 years, she taught at the University of Arkansas before moving to NYC in 2016. Currently she is Assistant Professor of Painting at FIT in NYC, where she also serves as Chair of her department.
