He is the principal investigator in the Invasive Aquatic Plant Program and head of the newly formed Office of Aquatic Invasive Species. He has led aquatic plant surveys of nearly 400 Connecticut lakes and ponds and has directed research projects on invasive aquatic plant control statewide. He is the current Past President of the Northeast Aquatic Plant Management Society and has numerous popular and scientific publications. He is the recipient of the Journal of Aquatic Plant Management \u201cOutstanding Paper Award\u201d for his work on controlling curlyleaf pondweed. More recently, he has documented the extensive infestation of a genetically distinct strain of hydrilla the Connecticut River and plays a major role in state and federal research into management options.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-tabs-panel\">\n\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"sow-tabs-panel-content\"\n\t\t\t\trole=\"tabpanel\"\n\t\t\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"\n\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3222 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/11\/greer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"175\" \/>Michael Greer is the Program Manager for the Aquatic Plant Control and Aquatic Nuisance Species Research Programs at the U.S. Army Engineer Research &amp; Development Center, Environmental Lab. As the Program Manager for the Aquatic Plant Control and Aquatic Nuisance Species Research Programs, Michael leads the financial and technical execution of the programs. He has over 20 years of professional experience in water resource planning and management specializing in ecosystem restoration, invasive species management, and watershed planning. He is a subject matter expert on USACE Civil Works Planning policies, procedures and authorizations.\u00a0 Additionally, Michael is a member of the Aquatic Plant Management Society, currently serving on its board of directors, and member of the USACE Invasive Species Leadership Team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Michael accomplished a Master of Science in Environmental Science in 2000 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education with a minor in Environmental Science in 1995 at SUNY College at Buffalo. He worked for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in the Diadromous Fish Program and in Freshwater Fisheries for 7 years, and is entering his 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0year as a biologist at Santee Cooper where he specializes in ambient water quality and aquatic vegetation management. teaches General Ecology, Lake Ecology, Stream Ecology and Ecotoxicology.\u00a0\u00a0 His current research focus is on the transfer of cyanobacteria toxins within the lake food webs and their impact on University and Tennessee Technological University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries Science and a Master of Science in Biology.\u00a0 He has worked in the field of fisheries science since 2003 for a variety of employers including environmental consulting firms, state and federal agencies, and public utilities.\u00a0 He worked from 2006 -2019 as a fisheries biologist for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources with responsibilities of freshwater and diadromous fisheries management in Lakes Marion and Moultrie and nine counties along the Atlantic Coast.\u00a0 Specific areas of interest were Blue Catfish and Striped Bass population management in Lakes Marion and Moultrie, Atlantic Sturgeon and Shortnose Sturgeon acoustic telemetry research in coastal rivers, and American Shad and Blueback Herring passage at St. Stephen Dam and Pinopolis Navigation Lock.\u00a0 He began working at Santee Cooper in 2019 and looks forward to the opportunity to continue to She began her career with Santee Cooper in 2005. Casey is an active member of The South Carolina Aquatic Plant Management Society where she served as the president and a director for several years and currently serves as the society\u2019s secretary. She is also a board director for the Lowcountry\u2019s Enrichment in Abilities of the Disabled (L.E.A.D) and on a steering committee for Berkeley County Kids Who Care.<\/p>\n<p>Her passions include finding the balance between all lake users, education\/community outreach and protecting the Santee Cooper lake system from invasive plants and animals. Before joining NEAR in 2017, A.J. spent years living in various parts of the country working on water quality and aquatic invasive species projects with the United States Geological Survey and the Yellowstone coalition. A.J. also served as an Extension Associate for North Carolina State University working on aquatic plant management. At NCSU he was the liaison between multiple stakeholder groups including the reservoir utility owner, the NC DEQ, and thousands of shoreline residents at Lake Gaston. She is also the current President of the Connecticut Federation of Lakes and instrumental in pushing forward the legislation that created legislation that will create a grant program for aquatic invasive species and cyanobacteria related projects.\u00a0 She is also served as a Commissioner of the Inland Wetland, Town of Morris; Chairman of the Board of Finance for the Town of Morris, and President of the Bantam Lake Task Force.\u00a0 Connie has lived on Bantam Lake as a summer resident all her life.
