Novel Coronavirus and COVID-19

Preparing to telecommute

Dear Colleagues,

Monday is the first day of WCSU as a virtual campus. As of today, the System Office has directed us to ask that all but those who cannot accomplish their jobs remotely stay home. For WCSU, this means most of us will be working remotely.  However, some will be in to tend labs, receive and distribute mail, clean buildings, and maintain the safety of our campus.  If you have a question about whether or not you can work remotely, please speak with your immediate supervisor.

If you need to come to campus, it is permissible, but you will need your WestConnect ID card to get in. You should also let your immediate supervisor know that you will be there. Your ID card does alert the campus police that you have entered the building, but if you feel uncomfortable on campus at any time, please call the WCSU Police Department at (203) 837-9805.

If you need assistance accessing your campus phone, using Web-Ex, or logging into Share Drives of One Drive, reach out to IT&I (requestit@wcsu.edu) for assistance or check out the help desk links https://support.wcsu.edu/. The instructional design team will still be available to help faculty transitioning their courses to online and there are tutorials here https://support.wcsu.edu/?ht_kb_category=training.

For those of you who have not considered telework until now, I provide a reminder of how we will be conducting ourselves for the next three weeks.

All employees now teleworking can direct any questions on work assignments and requirements to their manager. They are also expected to:

  • Be available online via email or phone during their normally scheduled hours.
  • Actively monitor email and voicemails sent to email. (Please do not put an out-of-office message on your email.)
  • Be available to return to their work site during normal working hours when requested by their manager.
  • Employee FAQs are listed here.

Sick or self-quarantined employees

  • Employees who become ill while teleworking and cannot perform their duties must report their illness to their manager and code their time sheet accordingly.
  • For any employee diagnosed with COVID–19, we ask that you notify the HR department by emailing Fred Cratty at Crattyf@wcsu.edu.
  • To any employee who is directed to self-quarantine, we ask that you also notify Fred Cratty.

What if I think I have COVID-19?

  • Call your doctor: If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop symptoms, such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.
  • Stay home except to get medical care.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Clean your hands often.
  • Avoid sharing personal household items.
  • Clean all “high-touch” surfaces every day.
  • Monitor your symptoms.
  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, notify Fred Cratty at Crattyf@wcsu.edu.
  • Here is guidance from the CDC.

As a reminder, we have listed more employee FAQs here.

We will continue to keep you informed as we all work together through these challenging times.
