Novel Coronavirus and COVID-19

May 4 – President’s May Message to Students and Parents

To WCSU parents and students,

I want to update you on what Western Connecticut State University has and is doing to plan for a safe and secure environment for our students to learn and thrive during these perilous times and beyond.

As we continue with online classwork through the summer, Academic Affairs is working to ensure that best practices for online learning are followed. As far as Fall 2020, they are also considering the full range of pedagogical possibilities, including classroom instruction, on-line learning, and a hybrid of online and in-person courses.

In conjunction with the CSCU System Office and our fellow Connecticut State Universities, we are considering all options for the Fall 2020 semester. Please rest assured that our decisions will be based on the best interests of our faculty and students in the opening of the Fall 2020 semester.

Please note that our Office of Enrollment Services has extended to June 1 the deadline date by which students commit to attend WCSU. This will allow families to have more time to thoughtfully consider this important decision. If you have questions about admissions or financial assistance, please contact the Office of Enrollment Services and the Office of Financial Aid.

Notably, our Student Government Association and the offices of Student Affairs and Institutional Advancement have raised money for the Colonial Cares fund to provide financial relief for students in emergency financial situations.

Please rest assured that during these troubling times, our dedicated facilities and maintenance team has been cleaning and disinfecting every building on campus in preparation for the eventual return of students, faculty and staff. They are using proved and reliable methods on a continuous basis to combat COVID-19 and protect the University.

Finally all communication regarding our current situation is posted and constantly updated on the WCSU website at https://www.wcsu.edu/coronavirus/ As soon as all relevant student information is available for the Fall 2020 semester, we will be sure to convey it to you as soon as possible.

My best wishes to you and your family for a safe and healthy summer!

Dr. John B. Clark
President
