Depending on what is going on in our lives we have more or less of it at times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Broadly defined, STRESS\u00a0is any change in our environment that we have to adapt to. For example, stress can be\u00a0associated with positive changes\u00a0such as\u00a0an achievement, starting college, moving to a new home, getting a job, starting a new relationship. Or to other changes such as academic assignments, taking tests, having a disagreement with a friend or loved one, being away from home, or having too much to do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STRESS\u00a0is neither good nor bad. It can motivate us, help us focus our attention, or overcome challenges. Some people live on the high end of stress. As long as you have the <strong>resources<\/strong> to cope with your stressors you can stay in <strong>balance<\/strong>. It is when STRESS exceeds our RESOURCES\u00a0for coping\u00a0is where difficulties sometimes arise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>HOW\u00a0you can\u00a0COPE and\u00a0Get Back into Balance&#8230;..<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STEP 1<\/span>&#8230;.<span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>RECOGNIZE\u00a0your signs<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #7a7474\">&#8230;.<span style=\"color: #000000\">are you more emotional? physically tense? behavior changes? thinking more negatively?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STEP 2<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080\">..<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">.<\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800080\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">PRESS\u00a0PAUSE<\/span><\/span><\/strong>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #000000\">step back, literally take a breath, breathe in, breathe out. Go for a short walk around the block to clear your mind. Talk with someone who is a good listener. Get a drink of water. Take a moment and calm yourself. You Got This! You Can Do This!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STEP 3<\/span>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>FIGURE OUT <\/strong>what&#8217;s causing your stress. Can you do anything about it? If yes&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STEP 4<\/span>..<span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>MAKE A PLAN <\/strong>for how to deal with your stressor. If you can&#8217;t do anything about it, practice Acceptance<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">STEP 5<\/span>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF <\/strong>What do you need right now, what would help you feel better (movement, rest, connection with others, nourishment, distraction, creativity, spirituality, quiet).
