The program is housed in the Education and Educational Psychology Department. The M.S. in ABA offers courses of study candidates can apply toward advanced degrees or toward careers as Board Certified Behavior Analysts.<br \/>\nThe mission of Western Connecticut State University\u2019s Applied Behavior Analysis program is to provide high-quality behavior analytic instruction to practitioners.\u202f We offer courses with advanced online technology in an academic environment dedicated to education and research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Goals and Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Candidates will be able to demonstrate mastery of the knowledge of the basic skills, underlying principles of applied behavior analysis. In addition, candidates will demonstrate mastery of practical skills in applied behavior analysis.\u00a0 The goal of the program is to ensure candidates are professionally competent and proficient in all areas of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board\u00ae and are prepared for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification Examination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">1. Candidates will demonstrate knowledge of the concepts and principles that underlie the science of behavior analysis and to application of those concepts and principles to the practice of the profession.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">2. Candidates will demonstrate knowledge of the process and procedures for implementing functional behavioral assessment procedures as well as the application of applied behavior analysis-based intervention procedures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">3. Candidates will demonstrate knowledge of research design and procedures in applied behavior analysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use assistive technology to promote the skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening with individuals with developmental disabilities who require behavioral modifications.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and submit a competitive grant proposal to a public or private organization.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate research for utility in the practice of diagnosing and treating individuals with developmental disabilities or behavior modification needs.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in all areas of the\u202f <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bacb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170113-BCBA-BCaBA-task-list-5th-ed-.pdf\">BCBA 5th edition task list.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Admission Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants who wish to be admitted to the M.S. in ABA must submit the following materials to the Office of Graduate Admissions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Application for admission to the\u00a0Office of Graduate Admissions\u00a0and a $50 application fee.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/graduate\/application\/\">Online Application <\/a>(Application deadline for fall: March 1st \/ for spring: November 1st)<\/li>\n<li>Applicants for the M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.<\/li>\n<li>One official transcript mailed to the\u00a0Office of Graduate Admissions\u00a0from each college or university previously attended, including all earned grades and degree<\/li>\n<li>Applicant\u2019s cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) must be at least a 2.8 for admission into program.<\/li>\n<li>Applicant must submit professional resume\/vitae.<\/li>\n<li>Applicant must submit response to the following essay question:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In a single, double-spaced page please tell us why you believe you are a good \u201cfit\u201d for Western Connecticut State University\u2019s Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program. Candidates are required to be knowledgeable about any and all licensure laws are requirements in that state in which he\/she plans to practice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Disclaimer<\/strong><\/span>: State laws related to licensure of behavior analysts vary and can change over time. The ABA program at WCSU currently meets with education requirements for licensure in CT and most other states. However, licensure requirements vary by state and it is the responsibility of the applicant to be knowledgeable about licensure requirements in the state in which he or she may plan to apply for licensure.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Candidates\u00a0who started the program prior to Fall 2019 can find degree requirements here:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR\u00a0CERTIFICATION\u00a0EXAM ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n<p>Candidates\u00a0must complete experience that fully compliances with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bacb.com\/experience-standards-monthly-system\/\">the BACB experience standards<\/a>. This experience consists of supervised independent fieldwork (1500 hours). The certificate program is Verified Course Sequence (VCS) and meets the coursework requirement to be eligible for certification per the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
