Teaching and Research Interests<\/u>: 19th<\/sup> Century English Literature; transcultural adaptation; the English novel; American short fiction; literary translation; and creative writing.<\/p>\n

Dr. Qi has published extensively on translingual\/transcultural issues. His creative works<\/p>\n

have appeared in Feminist Studies<\/a><\/em>, AMBIT, the Connecticut Review,<\/em> Rain Flower,<\/em> and Shanghai Theatre<\/a><\/em>, <\/em>and so on. My scholarly research has been published in peer reviewed journals such as Comparative Drama<\/a><\/em>, Classical Receptions Journal<\/a><\/em>, International Theatre Research<\/em>, The Ibsen Review<\/a><\/em>, The Eugene O\u2019Neill Review<\/em>, The Hardy Review<\/a><\/em>, and Literature Compass<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Qi has published more than 20 books in fiction, nonfiction, literary translation, and scholarly monographs.<\/p>\n

He is the author of When the Purple Mountain Burns: A Novel<\/a><\/em> (2005), <\/em>Red Guard Fantasies and Other Stories<\/a><\/em> (2007)<\/em>, and Twin-Sun River: An American POW in Chin<\/a><\/em>a<\/em> (a novel, 2011). His screenplay Purple Mountain<\/a><\/em> has been optioned for production and his play Twin-Sun River: An American POW in China<\/em> was staged by the prestigious Shanghai Theater Academy (April 2009).<\/p>\n

Among Qi\u2019s literary translations are two Thomas Hardy novels: A Pair of Blue Eyes<\/a><\/em> (1994) and <\/em>The Well-Beloved<\/a><\/em> (1998)<\/em>, <\/em>and Pearl Jacket: Flash Fiction from Contemporary China<\/a><\/em> (2008). Another Hardy-themed book Qi coauthored is Tragic Harmony: Essays on Thomas Hardy\u2019s Fiction and Poetry (2001).<\/em> (2008). Qi\u2019s most recent scholarly books include Western Classics for the Chinese Stage<\/a><\/em> (Routledge, 2018), The Bronte Sisters in Other Wor(l)ds<\/a><\/em> (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014) and Western Literature in China and the Translation of a Nation<\/a><\/em> (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012).<\/p>\n

Dr. Qi joined the faculty of Western Connecticut State University in 2000 and served as coordinator of the MA in English program (2007-2015). He is the recipient of CSU Board of Trustees Research Award<\/a> (2007) and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the College of Liberal Arts, Yangzhou University<\/a> (2007–present).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
