DESCRIPTION:VISITING ARTIST LECTURE – JOSEPHINE HALVORSON\, PAINTER: Lecture at 11 a.m. in the Visual & Performing Arts Center\, room 144. Free & Open to the Public. Limited Seating Available. RSVP required. \nJosephine Halvorson makes art that foregrounds firsthand experience and takes the form of painting\, sculpture\, and printmaking. Born in Brewster\, Massachusetts\, she received her BFA at The Cooper Union and her MFA at Columbia University\, with additional studies at Yale Norfolk. She is Professor of Art and Chair of Graduate Studies in Painting at Boston University and lives in western Massachusetts. \nIn 2021\, Josephine was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. She is also the recipient of international residencies and fellowships\, including the U.S. Fulbright to Vienna\, Austria\, and the Harriet Hale Woolley at the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris\, France. In 2014-15\, she was the first American pensionnaire at the French Academy in Rome at the Villa Medici. \nJosephine’s work has been exhibited internationally and is represented by Sikkema Jenkins & Co.\, NY\, and Peter Freeman\, Paris. Selected recent exhibitions include: Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art\, North Carolina; Storm King Art Center\, New York; Institute of Contemporary Art\, Boston\, Foster Prize Exhibition; and Ríos Intermitentes\, a group exhibition part of the 2019 Havana Biennial. In 2021-22 she had a solo exhibition at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe\, NM\, where she was the inaugural artist in residence. Halvorson’s work and practice have been written about extensively\, and she is a subject of Art21’s documentary series New York Close Up.

DESCRIPTION:REDEFINING MEDITATION SERIES 2022: Join Natalie Nevola in the IHHS Center for Wellbeing in her five week meditation series . The weekly meditations have specific themes\, from debunking meditation myths\, to “meditating while sipping” (hot cocoa!!) to using various frequencies of sound to soothe the body\, mind\, and spirit. She will share how to unplug and focus on breathing and will share meditation in motion (yoga!). Natalie is a registered yoga teacher and shares online meditations. Join us from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning on October 19!

DESCRIPTION:NAVIGATING THE NEW NORMAL: Join Christel Autuori for a discussion on managing stressors\, mindful meditation and newfound motivation at 7:30 p.m. in Room 127 of White Hall on the Midtown campus. The event is free for WCSU students; $10 for faculty\, staff and alumni; and $20 for the public. \nWhat a two years it has been dealing with Covid-19 and the disruption and upheaval in our lives. We have suffered losses\, our patience and creativity strained\, and often functioned on auto pilot. Now things have eased and we are getting back to “normal” — but it feels strange and weird and not normal at all. Christel Autuori \, a Certified Holistic Stress Management Instructor and Board Certified Health and Wellness and Lifestyle Medicine coach\, will share practical ways for you to navigate the new normal using inner resources we have developed in dealing with this pandemic.
