DESCRIPTION:THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON HIGHER EDUCATION: This single-day event is a collaboration between the Society for North American Scholars (SNAS) and WCSU. Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming numerous facets of higher education\, including teaching\, learning\, administrative operations\, and student support services. The third SNAS Interdisciplinary Research Conference aims to explore AI’s diverse impact on higher education institutions globally and its implications for students\, faculty\, administrators\, and stakeholders. We invite WCSU faculty\, staff\, and students to attend this conference. We encourage you to submit your papers and register for the event\, which will take place at the Westside campus on Oct. 11\, 2024.

DESCRIPTION:MACRICOSTAS PRESERVE SUNSET HIKE: Hike at Macricostas Preserve with the Adventure Club. The sunset is around 6:15 p.m.\, it’s a ~45 minute hike to the summit as a group. We will meet at the parking lot at 5 p.m. with an intent to start hiking at 5:15 p.m. Transportation will not be provided and those in attendance are expected to carpool and find their own ride. Limited carpooling will be offered from the Midtown campus police station\, departure is at 4:10 p.m. Please contact tarbet002@wcsu.edu to see if there are remaining seats. \nMacricostas Preserve Parking: 41.68288\, -73.33368 \nWhat to wear: \nFootwear with grippy soles\nPants for the weather\nLayers for the upper body \nWhat to consider: \nHat\nGloves\nSomething insulated to sit on-the rock at the summit is hard AND cold\nSnack/dinner/something to eat\nFirst aid kit\nTrekking poles \nWhat to avoid: \nCotton. It kills. It does not wick moisture and it does not dry \nWhat to bring: \nSmall backpack/day pack\nPreferably a headlamp. If not available\, a flashlight. The phone should NOT be your light source\nWater\nExtra layers \nWords of advice: \nThe ascent is steep. Avoid sweating by managing your layers while hiking. Having a base layer\, a mid layer and an outer layer allows for more options than a big heavy parka. The ground may be wet\, icy or slippery. Flat-soled shoes are guaranteed to have you on your rear end. Leave them home. The Pinnacle is exposed. There is always a breeze and it will get colder when the sun goes down. Additional layers for the upper and lower body are highly recommended. A headlamp offers a hands-free operation.
