DESCRIPTION:LIVE FROM THE MUSEUM – CELEBRATING NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH: The Office of Diversity\, Equity\, & Inclusion is promoting this virtual event for Native American Heritage Month. \nIn partnership with the Aquinnah Cultural Center\, join a museum educator live to commemorate Native American Heritage Month. Dedicated to the Aquinnah Wampanoag\, the Aquinnah Cultural Center in Massachusetts imparts cultural knowledge\, fosters tribal connection\, and shares their historical narratives and oral traditions. Together\, we’ll explore tribal sovereignty\, the constitutional roots of Indigenous relationships\, and take a look at the belongings and creations of the Aquinnah Wampanoag. \nSpeaking with the National Constitution Center’s team will be Brad Lopes\, an enrolled Aquinnah Wampanoag citizen and the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Aquinnah Cultural Center. Throughout his career as a classroom and public educator Brad has sought to help build understanding about tribal sovereignty and how it relates to civics curricula in the United States. She started as a mobile multilingual advocate\, where she supported Asian and Pacific Islander victims/survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence in Iowa. Later\, she served as a prevention coordinator\, where she developed community-based prevention programming in Iowa. Most recently\, she worked as national training and technical assistance provider\, focused on systems change and community collaboration approaches in rural communities. Fatima holds an MSW and a B.A. in Social Work and Gender\, Women’s\, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Iowa. In her free time\, she enjoys cooking\, reading\, and thrifting.

DESCRIPTION:AUTHOR TALK – KEVIN NGUYEN ON “MY DOCUMENTS”: The Office of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion is promoting this event in honor of AAPI Heritage Month (Asian American Pacific Heritage Month). \nCelebrate AAPI month with author Kevin Nguyen and his new book\, “Mỹ Documents.” Nguyen will be in conversation with educator and AAPI activist Jennifer Heikkila Diaz. \nThis event is presented in partnership with AAPI Westport. \nAs an author\, journalist\, and editor at The Verge\, Kevin Nguyen’s work often explores what happens at the intersection of technology\, humanity\, and culture. His incisive and darkly satirical new novel\, “Mỹ Documents\,” couldn’t be timelier — or more engrossing. \nA moving speculative novel about a Vietnamese American family confronting ambition and assimilation during exceptionally troubled times\, “Mỹ Documents” gives a version of reality only a few degrees away from our own. DESCRIPTION:JEWISH AMERICAN IDENTITY THROUGH FOOD\, ACTIVISM AND ARCHIVES: The Office of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion is promoting the following event for Jewish American Heritage Month. \nJoin curators\, librarians\, and educators at The New York Public Library for a virtual event exploring the richness and complexity of Jewish American life through food traditions\, community activism\, and archival treasures. Drawing on materials from the Library’s special collections and educator resources\, this program highlights objects and stories that reflect the diversity of Jewish identity in the United States. \nParticipants will learn about NYPL’s Jewish Cookbooks LibGuide\, a resource guide that takes readers on a culinary journey through migration\, adaptation\, and memory. Recipes and cookbooks serve as windows into the lived experiences of Jewish immigrants\, showing how food preserves culture and evolves across generations. \nThe event also explores Jewish American histories of labor organizing and tenant activism through New York City’s Rent Strikers: Jewish Activism & Housing Reform in the Progressive Era\, a curriculum guide developed by NYPL’s Center for Educators and Schools. This guide features primary sources\, historical context\, and classroom-ready materials that illuminate the connections between Jewish communities and broader movements for housing justice and workers’ rights. \nWe will also spotlight items from NYPL’s Dorot Jewish Division digital exhibitions\, including Visualizing Jewish New York and Building Jewish Life in the United States. DESCRIPTION:THROUGH THE LENS OF TRUDE FLEISCHMANN: The Office of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion is promoting this event for Jewish American Heritage Month. \nThrough the Lens of Trude Fleischmann (1895-1990) Presentation by Carey Mack Weber\, Fairfield (CT)\, followed by a conversation with Barbara Rosenburg. \nAfter opening her own studio in Vienna at the age of just 25\, Trude Fleischmann (1895-1990) had great success there in the 1920s and 30s photographing artists\, dancers\, actors\, and other key cultural figures of the era. When the Nazis invaded during the Anschluss in 1938\, she fled first to London and then to New York. She opened a studio just behind Carnegie Hall on 56th Street\, in 1940 and photographed many of the artists and intellectuals of the day\, including Eleanor Roosevelt\, Marian Anderson\, and Albert Einstein. \nPresentation by Carey Mack Weber\, Curator and Director\, Fairfield University Art Museum\, followed by a conversation with Fleischmann’s cousin\, Barbara Rosenberg Loss.
