This is the 55th anniversary of the event in 1970 that marked the birth of the modern environmental movement. Events\, talks\, crafts\, activities and the chance to win a pack of four passes to the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium! All events will be held on the first floor of Haas Library. \nALL DAY (9 a.m.- 5 p.m.): Wildflower seed balls\, Citizen Science kits\, Student Art exhibits\, food pantry donations\, electronic recycling\, seedling kits and more! \n10 a.m. – noon: THE GREEN MICROPHONE! DESCRIPTION:SUSTAINABILITY SYMPOSIUM: The Jane Goodall Center invites you to listen to presenter Sharon Lewis and WCSU students talk about sustainability. From noon to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Haas Library on the Midtown campus. LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED! This event is part of Earth Day 2025. Learn more here: https://libguides.wcsu.edu/earthday25 \nSharon Lewis is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice (CCEEJ). She is also the founder of Boots on the Ground — an environmental justice advocate training school — and the Community Benefits Alliance\, which helps communities understand and negotiate equitable development agreements. Her work spans climate policy\, energy justice\, and insurance reform\, with a focus on empowering frontline communities to fight for what they deserve. Sharon has testified before Congress on the critical connection between climate change and the insurance industry\, highlighting how discriminatory practices undermine housing\, resilience\, and recovery in vulnerable neighborhoods. She also leads campaigns to ensure equitable access to clean energy and community-led sustainability solutions. She believes sustainability is not just a goal — it’s a right. Through education\, advocacy\, and organizing\, she is unlocking what’s possible when justice is at the center. Sharon is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College holding a B.A. in Urban Studies and an M.A. in Urban Planning. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:FILM AND FORUM – DOCUMENTARIES AT THE LIBRARY: The Film and Forum series returns to the Haas Library on the Midtown campus. Join us for our final Film and Forum for the Spring 2025 semester from 3 to 5 p.m. for a screening of “Climate Refugees\,” a highly awarded documentary that focuses on the intersection between “overpopulation\, excessive consumption\, dwindling resources\, and a shifting climate.” \nA discussion following the screening will be led by Dr. Anna Malavisi\, Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Philosophy. \nPopcorn and snacks provided by Wally’s Cupboard\, WCSU’s Food Pantry. Her dissertation was titled\, “Global development and its discontents: rethinking the theory and practice is a critical analysis of global development from an ethical and feminist epistemology perspective.” Her philosophical interests include: practical and global ethics\, feminist philosophy/epistemology\, social and political thought\, environmental philosophy and the philosophy of violence. She has a Master of Health and International Development and has worked for 16 years in Latin America in the NGO sector in areas of development practice and management.
