SUMMARY:Student Previews - Allegro
DESCRIPTION:STUDENT PREVIEWS – RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S ALLEGRO: His ensemble musical chronicles nearly four decades in the life of an Everyman\, Joseph Taylor\, Jr.\, from cradle through a mid-life discovery of who he is and what his life is truly about. The first musical to be staged by a director who also served as choreographer (the legendary Agnes de Mille)\, Allegro follows a unique structural format traveling from Joe’s birth through his childhood\, from college dorm to marriage altar\, and on to his career; from the tranquility of his small Midwestern hometown to the hectic din of big city life\, in a series of vignettes and musical sequences dazzling in their simplicity and stunning in their impact. Ahead of its time theatrically\, Allegro remains timeless in its appeal. Performed by WCSU students in the Department of Theatre Arts on the Main State Theatre from 8 to 10:30 p.m.  \nSpecial student preview night.

SUMMARY:Season's Greetings
DESCRIPTION:SEASON’S GREETINGS:  \nSeason’s Greetings\nWritten by Alan Ayckbourn\nSeason’s Greetings is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com\nDirector: Cady Huffman\nScenic Designer: Elizabeth Popiel. Lighting Designer: Scott Cally. Costume Designer: Mary Donovan. Technical Director: Jason Jossick. Production Stage Manager: Iziah Barnes. \nPresented in the MainStage Theatre at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at WCSU. Runs December 2\, 3 and 4. Show times vary. \nAbout the Show\nHalf a dozen friends and relatives are celebrating Christmas with Neville and Belinda. Various children are also there and\, though unseen\, their presence is always felt. Petty squabbles break out and some not so petty. The arrival of Clive\, a young writer\, leads to what momentarily appears to be a tragedy: Clive is shot by trigger happy Harvey who thinks he is a burglar. Hilarious highlights include a chaotically incompetent puppet show and a midnight love scene that sets off a fearful din among mechanical Christmas toys. \nAbout the Director\nCady Huffman started studying acting at the age of 6\, ballet at 7 and classical voice at 9 and has never stopped studying. She sent herself to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and continues to view her life as a vibrant work in progress. \nCady is perhaps best known for her Tony\, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winning performance as Ulla in “The Producers” on Broadway opposite Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. This led to her unforgettable recurring role on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” where she almost became Larry David’s 10th anniversary present. This success also brought her to the Food Network’s kitchen stadium where she judged for 10 consecutive seasons on “Iron Chef America.” \nCady’s other Broadway credits are her Tony-nominated performance as Ziegfeld’s Favorite in “The Will Rogers Follies\,” her Outer Critics Circle nominated performance in “The Nance\,” the original production of “La Cage Aux Folles\,” “Chicago\,” “Steel Pier\,” “Dame Edna: The Royal Tour” and Bob Fosse’s last original musical “Big Deal.” \nShe has had several guest starring appearances on television\, including recurring roles on “The Good Wife” and “Blue Bloods\,” “Younger\,” “Madam Secretary\,” “Master of None\,” “Difficult People\,” “Law & Order: SVU\,” “Law & Order: CI\,” “Law & Order: Trial by Jury\,” “Frasier” and “Mad About You.” Daytime audiences know her as the second Dr. Paige Miller on “One Life to Live” and Calista Lockhart on “Days of Our Lives.” \nCady’s film credits include “The Sixth Reel\,” “The Company Men\,” “Dare\,” “The Nanny Diaries\,” “Romance and Cigarettes” and “Hero.” \nCady co-created and stars in the 12-time 2022 Indie Series Award nominated digital series “CADY DID\,” which took home five trophies including two for Cady for producing and acting. She has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards for her work on the digital series “After Forever\,” for which she won the 2018 IAWT Award and won an Indie Series Award for “Best Guest Actress in a Comedy” for her work on “He’s With Me.” \nCady is also a busy director and musician. Most recently she directed Veanne Cox in “The First Anti-Vaxxers\,” an original digital theater piece for TRUSpeak. SUMMARY:Short Short Story Film Festival*
DESCRIPTION:*AFFILIATED EVENT: 15th ANNUAL SHORT SHORT STORY FILM FESTIVAL AT GREENWOOD FEATURES (BETHEL): The Short Short Story Film Festival celebrates brevity in filmmaking\, featuring films from across the globe\, lovingly harvested by the folks at MergingArts Productions. The competitive international film festival includes both live-action and animated films\, all of which tell a story in under six minutes. The festival will screen films from nearly twenty countries\, culled from hundreds of submissions from around the world. \nAudiences can enjoy two distinct programs\, each in less than the time of a typical feature film. \nThe Heartstrings Program\, which leans more towards live action\, highlights films of a more emotional nature – comedic\, bittersweet\, or (as the name implies) tugging at the heart strings. \nThe Headtrip Program\, which is more evenly split between animation and live action\, presents forays into bizarre or unsettling territory\, including biting satire\, chilling imagery\, and absurdist tales. \nAudiences at each screening will vote for their favorite three films of the program (with over 15 films in each\, it’s not always easy to narrow it down)\, and these votes are later tallied and the winner of each program receives a custom art object award\, created by a winner from a previous edition of the festival. \nThe festival separately has a jury made of interviewees from the MergingArts produced Spoiler Alert Radio syndicated program\, which talks with film professionals in a variety of fields from cinematography to production design to editing to sound design. MergingArts Productions is an organization dedicated to cultural programming encompassing film\, music\, visual arts\, technology and media. \nMore information is available at http://www.mergingarts.org and http://www.spoileralertradio.com. \nTickets are available day of the event at the door and online here. https://www.greenwoodfeatures.com/short-short-story-film-festival
