DESCRIPTION:WCSU AGAINST VIOLENCE (WAV): A Dating Abuse Awareness Event in Honor of Alyssiah Wiley \nJoin The Center for Empowerment and Education and the Recreation Department for a kickball tournament\, wellness fair (with free giveaways)\, and documentary showing of Alyssiah Wiley’s story with honorable guest speaker Corrinna Martin. The kickball tournament\, hosted by the Recreation Department\, is for current WCSU students only. From 5 to 9 p.m. on the Westside REC Field. \nKickball Registration \nPrizes for the winning team! \nWestside CC Ballroom (Documentary and Guest Speaker) 7pm \nThe documentary showing will be open to everyone (the entire WCSU community including faculty/staff and to the public). \nTrigger warning: discussions of dating violence and intimate partner homicide. Counselors will be available for support. \nAlyssiah Wiley was a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her goal was to be a psychiatrist because she loved helping people\, giving advice and giving back to her community. In early 2013\, Alyssiah was brutally murdered by her abusive boyfriend. Her mother\, Corrinna Martin\, says she “was thrust into the fight for awareness and activism.” She began M.O.V.E. Inc to educate and advocate to end domestic violence. DESCRIPTION:REDEFINING MEDITATION SERIES 2022: Join Natalie Nevola in the IHHS Center for Wellbeing in her five week meditation series . The weekly meditations have specific themes\, from debunking meditation myths\, to “meditating while sipping” (hot cocoa!!) to using various frequencies of sound to soothe the body\, mind\, and spirit. She will share how to unplug and focus on breathing and will share meditation in motion (yoga!). Natalie is a registered yoga teacher and shares online meditations. DESCRIPTION:SLEEPING GIANT MID DAY HIKE: Join the Adventure Club at Sleeping Giant State Park! We are hiking up the blue trail\, which is steep with some rock scrambling\, but the trail is short\, which means a lot of fun! Once we reach the top we will stop for lunch and admire the view; on a clear day you can see Long Island Sound. On the way down we will follow the tower trail\, which is a fire road\, so a nice and easy downhill. \nThe plan is to meet at the Sleeping Giant State Park parking lot at 10:45 a.m. and be back at the parking lot at 1:30 p.m. at the latest. This is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of suturing and to network as our lab sessions while be led by a Yale physician\, Dr. Chioma Enu DPM. Dr. Enu is a podiatric surgery specialist with over 10 years of experience\, and is affiliated with Yale-New Haven Health (Bridgeport Hospital) and St. Vincent’s Medical Center. WARNING: We will be using real pigs feet for suturing practice. DESCRIPTION:REDEFINING MEDITATION SERIES 2022: Join Natalie Nevola in the IHHS Center for Wellbeing in her five week meditation series . The weekly meditations have specific themes\, from debunking meditation myths\, to “meditating while sipping” (hot cocoa!!) to using various frequencies of sound to soothe the body\, mind\, and spirit. She will share how to unplug and focus on breathing and will share meditation in motion (yoga!). Natalie is a registered yoga teacher and shares online meditations. Join us from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning on October 19!

DESCRIPTION:STOP THE BLEED: The leading cause of preventable death in trauma is bleeding. Someone can bleed to death in under five minutes. Knowing how to prevent blood loss by controlling the bleed can save lives. Learn how to do just that in this “Stop the Bleed” class from 1 to 3 p.m in the Warner Hall Lyceum.
