DESCRIPTION:HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT: Explore the intersection of human health and the environment with hands-on activities and case studies that make this more than a lecture: Ruth McDermott-Levy\, PhD\, MPH\, RN\, FAAN\, will discuss Climate Change\, Climate Challenges\, & Climate Champions. Her area of expertise is public health nursing with a focus on global and environmental health. Co-presenters Arroyo and Morrissey will discuss Housing as a Determinant of Health and Environmental Inequalities. Liana E. Arroyo\, MPH\, Director of Hartford’s Dept. of Health and Human Services\, and Primary Investigator for Hartford’s REACH program\, a five-year\, nearly $4 million investment to connect communities of color with health and social resources to reduce the burden of chronic disease and improve health status of the community. Lisa Morrissey\, MPH\, Director of Health of Housatonic Valley Health District which serves five towns in Western CT to ensure the provision of high-quality public health services\, expanding clinical programs\, and implementing and advocating for policies that best serve the district’s residents. DESCRIPTION:AROMATHERAPY JARS: We all like fragrances and nice smelling things\, but did you know that aromas can have effects on our mind and emotions too? Come to the IHHS Center for Well-being in White Hall room 114\, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to experience the effects of essential oils that can be relaxing\, stimulating\, and uplifting. You can even see how to make your own aromatherapy jar. We will look for you in the IHHS Center for Wellbeing– or you may even find us in other spots on campus too!
