DESCRIPTION:FILM AND FORUM – DOCUMENTARY NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY: Come join us from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for our first Film & Forum\, a documentary night at Haas Library on the Midtown campus. This event is being organized by Wally’s Cupboard\, the Black Social Workers’ Association (BSWA)\, and supported by Library Services and the Department of Social Work. \nMore than 500\,000 people experience homelessness every night in America. Lead Me Home is a documentary short that tells a few of these real-life stories giving the audience a rare\, in-depth look at the scale\, scope\, and diversity of what it means to be unsheltered today while calling into question uninformed attitudes and outmoded policies. \nThis event will feature a discussion moderated by social work professor Dr. Sharon Young\, as well as introductory remarks from Gabriela Torres (BSWA) and concluding remarks from social work student Jennifer Dreisacker (Renewal House). \nAll attendees will be entered in a raffle! Snacks will be provided.

This event is being organized by Wally’s Cupboard and the Institute for Holistic Health Studies\, and supported by Library Services. \nThe Blue Zones are the places in the world where people live to be over 100 years old\, enjoying happy\, healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling lives\, without most of the chronic diseases and conditions that plague many of us in our 21st century lives. What is their secret? What can we learn from them? “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” is a Netflix documentary series that takes members around the world to investigate the diet and lifestyles of those living the longest lives. Explore the original blue zones\, be immersed in their culture and lifestyles\, and see how Blue Zones is applying the research in communities across the United States. \nDiscussion following the viewing will be led by Christel Autuori\, director of the Institute for Holistic Health Studies at Western Connecticut State University.  Christel holds a Master’s degree in Integrative Health and Healing\, is a board certified Health and Wellness Coach\, specializing in Lifestyle Medicine\, and teaches courses in Holistic and Integrative Health and Positive Health and Stress Management. Christel will help you identify and discover  easy ways to put some of the Blue Zones practices in your own  21st Century lives for better health and vitality. \nLight refreshments will be served.

The WCSU Libraries and Wally’s Cupboard are proud to present a showing of “A Place at the Table” with opening remarks from Sara Risko\, Coordinator for Wally’s Cupboard\, and a discussion led by Dr. Manoj Misra\, Associate Professor of Sociology\, on food insecurity. \n“A Place at the Table” (2012) is a documentary that examines hunger in America through the lens of several families and their struggles to fill their plates day after day. \nLight refreshments will be served.
