To register\, visit www.wcsu.edu/biology/lake-symposium-2024/. \nThe Sept. 23 discussion about “The March of Hydrilla in Connecticut” and “Reclaiming the Connecticut River from Hydrilla” will feature WCSU Limnology Instructor Larry Marsicano\, Brawley Consulting Group LLC; Greg Bugbee\, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station\, Office of Aquatic Invasive Species\, who will address “The March of Hydrilla” and Dr. Benjamine P. Sperry\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, Engineer Research and Development Center\, who will speak about “Reclaiming the Connecticut River from Hydrilla.” A question-and-answer session will follow. \nOn Oct. 21\, the topic will be “Aquatic Invasive Species Grants in Connecticut.” Marsicano will be joined by Matthew Goclowski\, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection\, Fisheries Division and AIS Grants Oversight Committee\, who will share “Five Years into Grants for the Control of Aquatic Invasive Species in Connecticut.” A discussion will follow by lake and river community stakeholders about their projects funded through the Connecticut Lakes\, Rivers\, Ponds Preservation account. \nFinally\, on Nov. 18\, “Managing Aquatics Invasive Plants” will be the focus of discussion. Audience members will learn about the creative opportunities of collaborating with fellow artists across forms and styles as well as participate in a short writing exercise inspired by visual art produced by the Arts Escape community. Original broadsides will be on display. Refreshments and light snacks will be served. Digital versions of last year’s broadsides can be viewed here. From 6 to 8 p.m. at Arts Escape\, 493 Heritage Road\, Suite 4C in Southbury. \nThe Department of Creative and Professional Writing is proud to expand their community partnerships to include Arts Escape. Founded in 2012\, Arts Escape encourages engagement in the arts through an extensive range of programs and classes. DESCRIPTION:NO PLACE LIKE HOME: EXPLORING THE SIGHTS\, SOUNDS\, AND TASTES OF THE MIDDLE EAST WITH ARTIST MOHAMAD HAFEZ AND GUESTS: In conjunction with the Exhibition\, “Mohamad Hafez: Unsettled Nostalgia” and with the completion of the NEA supported “The Home Project” at WCSU with artist Mohamad Hafez\, the Department of Art invites the public to attend this event from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall at the Visual & Performing Arts Center. \nThe audience will spend the evening learning about Middle Eastern culture through history\, art\, film\, music\, storytelling\, and cuisine. Hafez will be joined by other guests who also focus on the traditions of the Middle East.
