DESCRIPTION:UNVEILING COURAGE ART EXHIBITION – EVERY STEP MATTERS: The Office of Diversity\, Equity\, & Inclusion is promoting this event from The Center for Family Justice. \n“Unveiling Courage” is about raising awareness for and empowering survivors of sexual violence. The event will take place on April 2 from 5-8 p.m. at the CFJ main office\, 753 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport\, inside the old daycare space due to upcoming construction. This year\, the exhibition\, titled “Every Step Matters\,” will focus on the healing journey that individuals impacted by sexual violence take to go from victims to survivors. Reserve tickets at www.eventbrite.com/e/visiting-artist-lecture-glenn-goldberg-painter-tickets-1980476598820 \nGlenn Goldberg is a NYC artist and musician who was born in Bronx\, New York. He studied at the New York Studio School and earned his B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Queens College\, CUNY. He has taught at Cooper Union\, New York Studio School\, and Queens College\, where he was Professor and Chair of Graduate Studio Art. He also has been a panelist and visiting artist for numerous M.F.A. painting programs in the U.S. In June of this summer\, he will teach at Umbria Contemporary Arts in Italy\, a new art center and school in the medieval village of Monte Castello di Vibio. \nA recipient of many awards\, Goldberg has received grants from the Edward Albee Foundation\, the Guggenheim Foundation\, the Joan Mitchell Foundation\, Sharpe-Walentas\, Urban Glass\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has been reviewed in The New York Times\, LA Times\, New Yorker\, and Chicago Tribune\, among others. In “Hyperallergic\,” art historian Jennifer Samet described his paintings as “ethereal\,” as a “meeting point of the ordinary and the other.” \nGoldberg is a member of The National Academy of Design and is currently represented by Chris Sharp in Los Angeles and The Approach in London. He has shown extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe\, with work in many museum collections\, including: the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Guggenheim Museum; the Brooklyn Museum; the National Gallery of Art; and the Museum of Contemporary Art\, Los Angeles.

No sewing experience necessary! Refreshments will be served; all supplies provided. \nWe will also be screening the short documentary film “Period: End of Sentence” about Indian women fighting the stigma surrounding menstruation and their journey to begin manufacturing sanitary pads. \nFeel free to bring friends and family. DESCRIPTION:A CEDAR JOURNEY MUSICAL BENEFIT: The Lebanon American Club of Danbury and Middle Eastern Dance Academy of West Haven are once again co-hosting the a Musical Benefit at Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the Midtown campus. The MDA dance troupe will be joined by Peter\, Paul\, John and Mary Band of West Nyack\, New York\, and several local and regional artists. It is expected to be a variety music and dance program depicting a family struggle with the decision on leaving everything behind in their home country and immigrating to America. Save the date for Saturday\, Feb. 21\, at 7:30 p.m. (with a snow date of Sunday\, Feb. 22\, at 2 p.m.) This is a wonderful opportunity to support local and regional artists and the Lebanon American Club\, which helped put on the first Musical Benefit for emergency relief of the Lebanon Red Cross last January. DESCRIPTION:(CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER) POOR YORICK – WRITERS’ OPEN MIC: Join WCSU’s Department of Creative & Professional Writing Program for a Writers’ Open Mic with Pop-up Book Shop from 3-5 p.m. at The Market at The Meetinghouse\, located at 602 Ridgebury Road in Ridgefield — just a 12-minute drive from the WCSU Westside campus! \nHosted by Poor Yorick\, the program’s literary journal\, this event celebrates both WCSU’s lifelong community of writers and the vibrant literary voices of the Greater Danbury Area. We’re excited to share our program’s long-standing tradition of these open mics with the local community beyond the boundaries of our campus with an evening of storytelling\, poetry\, and prose of every kind at The Market at The Meetinghouse. This event will feature a Pop-up Book Shop hosted by Rainy Day Paperback Exchange of Bethel\, offering a curated selection of used books. \nFeatured Student Reader: Sophia Caselnova\nCaselnova is a recent M.F.A. candidate in Creative Nonfiction at Western Connecticut State University focusing on memoir writing\, having recently finished her first collection of work\, titled “The Climb\,” which includes essays\, poems\, and vignettes. Previously\, Caselnova worked as a journalist where she won an award for her coverage of a municipal lawsuit\, and her poetry has been featured in Poet’s Choice and Sad Girl Diaries. She now leads creative nonfiction workshops for veterans enabling them with the tools necessary to tell their stories.\n———————————————————- \nThis event is open to the public!
