DESCRIPTION:MFA WINTER RESIDENCY READING: The WCSU Master of Fine Arts in Creative and Professional Writing program will host its Winter Residency from Friday\, Jan. 2\, through Wednesday\, Jan. 7\, at Hotel Zero Degrees\, 15 Milestone Road in Danbury. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception\, at which MFA mentors will read short excerpts (4-5 minutes) from their works-in-progress. The public is invited to attend a workshop and reading\, “Better Together: How to Co-Write a Nonfiction Book\,” featuring Cha McCoy & Layla Schlack\, at 1:30 p.m. at Hotel Zero Degrees. \nCha McCoy and Layla Schlack worked together on McCoy’s book\, “Wine Pairing for the People” (Harvest\, November 2025) from proposal to launch. DESCRIPTION:(CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER) POOR YORICK – WRITERS’ OPEN MIC: Join WCSU’s Department of Creative & Professional Writing Program for a Writers’ Open Mic with Pop-up Book Shop from 3-5 p.m. at The Market at The Meetinghouse\, located at 602 Ridgebury Road in Ridgefield — just a 12-minute drive from the WCSU Westside campus! \nHosted by Poor Yorick\, the program’s literary journal\, this event celebrates both WCSU’s lifelong community of writers and the vibrant literary voices of the Greater Danbury Area. We’re excited to share our program’s long-standing tradition of these open mics with the local community beyond the boundaries of our campus with an evening of storytelling\, poetry\, and prose of every kind at The Market at The Meetinghouse. This event will feature a Pop-up Book Shop hosted by Rainy Day Paperback Exchange of Bethel\, offering a curated selection of used books. \nFeatured Student Reader: Sophia Caselnova\nCaselnova is a recent M.F.A. candidate in Creative Nonfiction at Western Connecticut State University focusing on memoir writing\, having recently finished her first collection of work\, titled “The Climb\,” which includes essays\, poems\, and vignettes. Previously\, Caselnova worked as a journalist where she won an award for her coverage of a municipal lawsuit\, and her poetry has been featured in Poet’s Choice and Sad Girl Diaries. She now leads creative nonfiction workshops for veterans enabling them with the tools necessary to tell their stories.\n———————————————————- \nThis event is open to the public! All writers are welcome to read their works* and all readers invited to sit back and enjoy! \n*Please note: Current WCSU M.F.A. students will receive priority for reading opportunities.
