SUMMARY:From Medieval Warm Period to the Little Ice Age
DESCRIPTION:FROM MEDIEVAL WARM PERIOD TO THE LITTLE ICE AGE: Join the Danbury Library for a compelling Zoom program as Dr. Mitch Wagener from the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences at Western Connecticut State University delves into the intricate and interconnected stories behind some of history’s most significant developments. \nThis session will explore how early contact between Europeans\, Africans\, and Native Americans led to the spread of diseases to which New World peoples had no resistance. This caused millions of deaths\, resulting in abandoned agricultural lands reverting to forests\, which removed CO2 from the atmosphere and intensified the cooling of the Little Ice Age. The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora further cooled the climate\, leading to the “Year Without Summer” in 1816. During this time\, the poet Byron inspired Mary Shelley to write “Frankenstein\,” considered the first science fiction novel. \nFrom 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This is a virtual event via Zoom. \nFREE. Registration is Required.\nFor more information\, visit https://danburylibrary.events.mylibrary.digital/event?id=114094 or contact Aurelio Muraca amuraca@danburylibrary.org
