SUMMARY:Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:GALLERY OPENING: MOHAMAD HAFEZ: UNSETTLED NOSTALGIA: February 10 – March 6 \nOpening Reception:\nThursday\, Feb 10\, 2022\, 6 to 8 p.m.\nthe Gallery at the Visual & Performing Arts Center\,\nWestside Campus \nA Syrian-American artist and architect\, Mohamad Hafez was born in Damascus\, raised in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia\, and educated in the Midwestern United States. Expressing the juxtaposition of East and West within him\, Hafez’s art reflects the political turmoil in the Middle East through the compilation of found objects\, paint\, and scrap metal. Using his architectural skills\, Hafez creates surrealistic Middle Eastern streetscapes that are architectural in their appearance yet politically charged in their content which addresses the devastation of war\, feelings of displacement\, and nostalgia for home. \nThe Department of Art was awarded a $13\,000 National Endowment for the Arts “Project Grant” to support “The Home Project\,” in which Hafez will pursue an extensive program of collaborative art installations and exhibition\, student mentoring\, public lectures\, and other activities during a year-long residency in the WCSU Department of Art that will begin in August and continue through the end of the 2021-22 academic year. Through these diverse and interactive exchanges\, he will draw from his unique experiences and artistic works to challenge participants in the project to create their own artistic interpretations of the meaning and concept of home to be exhibited alongside his work in the exhibition. \nGallery Hours: Monday–Friday noon to 4 p.m.\, Saturday–Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

SUMMARY:It's a Wonderful Life
DESCRIPTION:GREATER DANBURY AREA EVENT: “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” ON STAGE: This December\, the beloved holiday classic “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” will come to The Palace\, live on stage\, but with a very clever twist. It will be performed as an old time radio broadcast. George Bailey\, Mary\, Mr Potter\, and Clarence will all be there along with a few special surprises. \nWHAT IS A LIVE RADIO PLAY? A long long time ago… before television or the internet… families would sit around the radio listening to their favorite programs. Radio shows were usually performed by an ensemble of actors playing multiple characters. Along with the actors there was also the FOLEY ARTIST who was the person responsible for all of the sounds created during the show. \nThe Palace Danbury – 165 Main St\, Danbury\, from 2 to 5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Noises Off - Understudy Performance*
DESCRIPTION:NOISES OFF – UNDERSTUDY PERFORMANCE*: At 2 p.m. in the MainStage Theatre in the Visual and Performing Arts Center. \nwritten by Michael Frayn \ndirected by Pam McDaniel \nMichael Frayn’s NOISES OFF takes a fond look at the follies of theatre folk\, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos\, memory loss\, and passionate affairs turn every performance into a high-risk adventure. This play-within-a-play captures a touring theatre troupe’s production of Nothing On in three stages: dress rehearsal\, the opening performance\, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run. Brimming with slapstick comedy\, NOISES OFF is a delightful backstage farce\, complete with slamming doors\, falling trousers\, and — of course — flying sardines! NOISES OFF runs in our Mainstage Theatre from December 3rd through 5th! \nPlease note that audience members must be masked at all times inside the Visual and Performing Arts Center without exception. In addition\, we are enforcing 3 ft. social distancing\, and as such\, seating inside our theatre is limited to every other seat. Because of the reduced capacity of our theatre\, we are asking all patrons to purchase their ticket in advance here on Eventbrite. Shows are likely to sell out\, so do not wait to purchase at the box office before the show. Tickets are subject to higher charges at the door as opposed to online. There is no pod seating or reserved seating\, it is general admission. Every-other seat inside the theatre will be designated for no seating. There will be no exceptions made to socially distanced seating. \nNo refunds are permitted; all sales are final. Get tickets at www.eventbrite.com/e/noises-off-tickets-201802926987.
