Learn more here: https://libguides.wcsu.edu/earthday25 \nSharon Lewis is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice (CCEEJ). She is also the founder of Boots on the Ground — an environmental justice advocate training school — and the Community Benefits Alliance\, which helps communities understand and negotiate equitable development agreements. Her work spans climate policy\, energy justice\, and insurance reform\, with a focus on empowering frontline communities to fight for what they deserve. Sharon has testified before Congress on the critical connection between climate change and the insurance industry\, highlighting how discriminatory practices undermine housing\, resilience\, and recovery in vulnerable neighborhoods. She also leads campaigns to ensure equitable access to clean energy and community-led sustainability solutions. She believes sustainability is not just a goal — it’s a right. Through education\, advocacy\, and organizing\, she is unlocking what’s possible when justice is at the center. Sharon is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College holding a B.A. in Urban Studies and an M.A. in Urban Planning. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:WALLY’S CUPBOARD: Wally’s Cupboard by SGA is the WestConn campus food pantry created by students for students! At Wally’s Cupboard\, we aim to provide a reliable source of groceries and other supplies to students experiencing food insecurity on a weekly basis. \nWish to utilize our resources? All currently enrolled students are eligible! Just stop by with your active student ID and sign up during our open hours. Registration is valid for the entire semester and you can “shop” our grocery store-style food pantry once per week. We do our best to cater to dietary restrictions and we offer canned goods\, fresh produce\, dairy products\, frozen items\, and more! \nUnsure if you are food insecure? Food insecurity is defined as a state of being where one is unsure where their next meal is coming from. Don’t hesitate to swing by if you are still unsure! Hours are listed below. DESCRIPTION:WALK WITH DANBURY 2025: The WCSU Futures Lab and the Sustainability CT Danbury team will host a free sustainability research event – Walk With Danbury 2025 – on Earth Day\, April 22. \nWe invite all members of the public for a short guided walk around downtown with WCSU students so we can collect your opinions and observations about how to make Danbury a more sustainable city. This fun event is a great way for you to play a role in guiding the city council in making plans for the future of our city. Bring family and friends\, wear your walking shoes\, and dress to be outside. \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 22\,  4 -6 p.m. Where: Danbury Museum & Historical Society Parking Lot\, 43 Main Street (start of our ‘walk audit’) \nSchedule: 4 – 4:30 p.m.: Gathering and orientation to the project and the data we want to collect. 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Teams will be guided on a slow walk around downtown and will provide their observations to student researchers. 5:30 – 6 p.m.: Reconvene at the Danbury Museum & History Society for discussion and light refreshments. \nInterpretation: Spanish and Portuguese interpretation will be provided for those who need it.
