This event will be hosted by WCSU’s M.F.A. in Creative and Professional Writing program will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Room 218 of the Westside Classroom Building. \nJill McDonough’s books of poems include “Habeas Corpus” (Salt\, 2008)\, “Where You Live” (Salt\, 2012)\, “Reaper” (Alice James\, 2017). and “Here All Night” (Alice James\, 2019). The recipient of three Pushcart prizes and fellowships from the Lannan Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Fine Arts Work Center\, the New York Public Library\, the Library of Congress\, and Stanford’s Stegner program\, she taught incarcerated college students through Boston University’s Prison Education Program for 13 years. Her work has appeared in Poetry\, Slate\, The Nation\, The Threepenny Review and Best American Poetry. She teaches in the M.F.A. program at UMass-Boston and offers College Reading and Writing in Boston jails. Her sixth poetry collection\, “American Treasure\,” won WCSU’s 2023 Housatonic Book Award. Neeves grew up in New England\, where she spent many summers lifeguarding at an idyllic lake\, and occasionally catching snapping turtles. She enjoys tea\, swimming and board games that take entire evenings to play. When she’s not writing\, she can usually be found spending time with her family at their (probably not haunted) home in Salem\, Massachusetts. “After You Vanished” is her YA debut. \nPatricia Park is a tenured professor of Creative Writing at American University\, a Fulbright Scholar in Creative Arts\, an Edith Wharton Writer-in-Residence\, and a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow. She is the author of the YA novel\, “Imposter Syndrome and Other Confessions of Alejandra Kim” and the adult novel\, “Re Jane\,” a retelling of Jane Eyre named New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice\, winner of an American Library Association Award\, an NPR Fresh Air pick\, and others. VERMONT STATE UNIVERSITY CASTLETON : The Wolves will face Vermont State University Castleton at 2 p.m. in the Feldman Arena of the O’Neill Center on the Westside campus. For more information\, visit https://westconnathletics.com/. \n  \nOn Saturday\, Jan. 27\, the Western Connecticut State University Wolves will host the VTSU-Castleton Spartans in a Play4Kay Day women’s basketball game at 2 p.m.  Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of the Play4Kay cause.  Donations\, which will be given to local cancer organizations on behalf of WestConn women’s basketball\, will be accepted prior to and during Saturday’s contest with the Spartans.  The Play4Kay initiative is an opportunity for teams across the nation to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court\, across campuses\, in communities and beyond. \nSince its inception in 2007\, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded more than 8 million dollars to support life-saving cancer research and underserved programs that provide access to quality cancer healthcare.  Play4Kay is the largest fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Olympic gold medal-winning and Naismith Hall of Fame coach\, Kay Yow\, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24\, 2009. Coach Yow did not lose her battle to cancer. She simply turned the battle over to all of us. \nThe vision of Play4Kay came directly from Coach Kay Yow. Through Play4Kay\, she saw a way to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors\, survivors\, and thrivers in the fight against cancer.  Uniting players\, coaches\, ocials\, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition\, the Play4Kay initiative is our largest fundraiser and plays a major role in our success. \nJoin the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as we continue to fulfill Coach Yow’s vision and mission in the fight against cancer!
