DESCRIPTION:WCSU AGAINST VIOLENCE (WAV): Join The Center for Empowerment and Education and the Recreation Department (REC) for a dating violence workshop/guest speaker with UConn Encounters from 5:30-7 p.m.\, a wellness fair (with free giveaways!)\, free food and a roller-skating rink to follow. \nWhen: Friday\, September 29 \nWorkshop in the Westside Campus Center Rooms 212/214 at 5:30 p.m.  \nRoller-Skating in the Westside Campus Center Ballroom from 6-10 p.m.  \nOpen Mic in the Daily Grind 8-10 p.m. \nTrigger warning: Discussions of dating violence and intimate partner homicide. Counselors will be available for support. \nAlyssiah Wiley was a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her goal was to be a psychiatrist because she loved helping people\, giving advice and giving back to her community. In early 2013\, Alyssiah was brutally murdered by her abusive boyfriend. Her mother\, Corrinna Martin\, says she “was thrust into the fight for awareness and activism.” She began M.O.V.E. The Commuter Lounge in the Student Center needs a makeover! \nLast semester the former president of CSO started a painting the wall\, and we have a lot of bricks done\, but there are a few that need a makeover. There is about 30 that need your help.  To paint a brick it will be 10 dollars; you can pay cash\, Zelle\, Venmo\, ApplePay\, or CashApp. The times will be from October 4 to October 26 ONLY\, Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. If those times don’t work for you\, email cso@wcsu.edu or sorianopaulino001@wcsu.edu to arrange a time to finish your brick. \nCome and leave a mark.
