SUMMARY:WCSU Opera: Cinderella
DESCRIPTION:WCSU OPERA ENSEMBLE PRESENTS “CINDERELLA”: Pauline Viardot’s “Cinderella” is a retelling of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale\, composed in an operetta style combining musical numbers and dialogues\, and intended for salon style chamber performances\, such as it received at its premier\, in Viardot’s own salon in 1904. \nInstead of a step-mother\, this story has the foolish Baron de Pictordu\, with his two vain daughters\, Maguelone and Armelinde\, that are both after the Prince. After an invitation to the palace for a grand ball arrives\, Maguelone and Armelinde prepare for such a wonderful event. Marie\, who they call ‘Cinderella’ is left behind while everyone else attends the ball. Hearing her sad song\, La Fée (the fairy godmother) appears and promises to make Cinderella’s dreams come true: she will go to the ball. Meanwhile\, the Prince and his good friend Count Barigoule swap places to test out the true natures of the potential brides. A mysterious stranger appears at the ball\, and she and the Prince fall in love at first sight\, but will he be able to find her again when she runs away at midnight? \nNOTE: Advance ticket purchases made online are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 plus fees; Tickets purchased at the door are $15 and $10. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. \nNo refunds or exchanges are permitted\, all sales are final. \nPlease note that audience members must be masked at all times inside the Visual and Performing Arts Center without exception. In addition\, we are enforcing 3 ft. social distancing\, and as such\, seating inside our theatre is limited to every other seat. Because of the reduced capacity of our theatre\, we are asking all patrons to purchase their ticket in advance here on Eventbrite. Shows are likely to sell out\, so do not wait to purchase at the box office before the show. Tickets are subject to higher charges at the door as opposed to online. There is no pod seating or reserved seating\, it is general admission. Every-other seat inside the theatre will be designated for no seating.
