SUMMARY:From Medieval Warm Period to the Little Ice Age
DESCRIPTION:FROM MEDIEVAL WARM PERIOD TO THE LITTLE ICE AGE: Join the Danbury Library for a compelling Zoom program as Dr. Mitch Wagener from the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences at Western Connecticut State University delves into the intricate and interconnected stories behind some of history’s most significant developments. \nThis session will explore how early contact between Europeans\, Africans\, and Native Americans led to the spread of diseases to which New World peoples had no resistance. This caused millions of deaths\, resulting in abandoned agricultural lands reverting to forests\, which removed CO2 from the atmosphere and intensified the cooling of the Little Ice Age. The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora further cooled the climate\, leading to the “Year Without Summer” in 1816. During this time\, the poet Byron inspired Mary Shelley to write “Frankenstein\,” considered the first science fiction novel. \nFrom 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This is a virtual event via Zoom. \nFREE. Registration is Required.\nFor more information\, visit https://danburylibrary.events.mylibrary.digital/event?id=114094 or contact Aurelio Muraca amuraca@danburylibrary.org

SUMMARY:Film and Forum - Documentary Night at the Library
DESCRIPTION:FILM AND FORUM – DOCUMENTARY NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY: Join us from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for our second Film & Forum\, a documentary night at Haas Library on the Midtown campus. This event is being organized by Wally’s Cupboard and the Institute for Holistic Health Studies\, and supported by Library Services. \nThe Blue Zones are the places in the world where people live to be over 100 years old\, enjoying happy\, healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling lives\, without most of the chronic diseases and conditions that plague many of us in our 21st century lives. What is their secret? What can we learn from them? “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” is a Netflix documentary series that takes members around the world to investigate the diet and lifestyles of those living the longest lives. Explore the original blue zones\, be immersed in their culture and lifestyles\, and see how Blue Zones is applying the research in communities across the United States. \nDiscussion following the viewing will be led by Christel Autuori\, director of the Institute for Holistic Health Studies at Western Connecticut State University.  Christel holds a Master’s degree in Integrative Health and Healing\, is a board certified Health and Wellness Coach\, specializing in Lifestyle Medicine\, and teaches courses in Holistic and Integrative Health and Positive Health and Stress Management. Christel will help you identify and discover  easy ways to put some of the Blue Zones practices in your own  21st Century lives for better health and vitality. \nLight refreshments will be served.
