DESCRIPTION:WCSU RESEARCH DAY: This showcase of undergraduate and graduate research\, scholarship\, and creative inquiry projects will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall. If you are just interested in research\, or not yet sure what you want to do in your future career\, it is a great opportunity to learn about the interesting work being done in a variety of fields by students like you right here at WCSU. It’s also a good way to meet other students who share your passions and interests. Projects are submitted from students from a whole range of fields including biology\, psychology\, education\, chemistry\, English\, and history. There are also two keynote speakers who are both graduates from WCSU. \nKeynote Speakers: Gill Simmons is a meteorologist who will be talking about humanizing the science of weather\, and Dr. Brittany Baisch is a toxicologist who will be talking about methods for making safer decisions in her field. \nIf you can’t make it for the whole time\, that’s ok. You can always stop in for the student poster sessions or the keynote speakers.

DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER: Are you expecting? Are you a new parent? Do you have small children in your family? \nThe Danbury Library is throwing a community baby shower! Meet organizations that serve babies and families with young children to set your little ones up for childhood success. New parents can expect prenatal and postpartum health resources\, breastfeeding information\, childhood success techniques and tips\, meet other new parents in the community\, and door prizes! \nAll are welcome to attend and meet our partners. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Danbury Public Library. We have a Dads Read Storytime at 11:30 a.m. for big siblings. The first 50 registrants will receive an early literacy tote bag from the Friends of the Danbury Library. (Bags are for babies ages 0 – 18 months.) DESCRIPTION:DANBURY STREET FESTIVAL: Celebrating its 35th anniversary\, on Saturday\, June 3\, from noon to 6 p.m.\, CityCenter Danbury will once again turn Main Street into a pedestrian-only festival for a day. CityCenter is highlighting the arts and innovation that are core components in the revitalization efforts in downtown Danbury. Over 70 artists and vendors will line the roadway that day between White Street and West Street. \nAt least seven food trucks\, including Latin flavors with Artisans\, El Taco Loco\, BBQ’s best Dish It Right Here\, Twins BBQ\, unique cuisine from Pink Elephant\, hot dog extraordinaire Weenie Lynn’s and many more!!! Beer and wine provided by TAPVILLE Mobile Taproom will be available in the outdoor “Bar-do Garden” alcove located at the Bardo Walkway\, highlighting many local breweries. \nThree live performance stages will host more than 20 different groups and performance artists\, featuring several musicians and a variety of dance troupes from multiple cultural organizations. DESCRIPTION:2023 MFA THESIS EXHIBITION AT BLUE MOUNTAIN GALLERY:  \nAll are welcome to attend the Opening Reception on Thursday\, June 22\, from 5 – 8 p.m. \nThe Exhibition will be on view from June 20–July 8\, 2023.\nGallery hours are Tuesday–Saturday\, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.\, located at 547 West 27 Street\, Suite 200\, New York\, NY. \nThe MFA Thesis Exhibition is the summation of two years of intensive\, creative study and extensive interaction with resident faculty and visiting artists for students of WCSU’s Department of Art’s Graduate Program. This exhibition is supported by the Jason and Ellen Hancock Student Endowment Fund at Western Connecticut State University. \nThe Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts is the preferred degree for the practicing artist who is preparing for a professional career in the visual arts. MFA degrees are available in painting\, illustration and interdisciplinary visual art. The MFA Thesis Exhibition is the capstone experience of the graduate program\, demonstrating a personal direction and mastery in the work of the artists. Four MFA graduates will present their thesis work this year: Dan Baker\, Marcus Escribano\, Lilah Heyman and Aimee Jette.
