Proceeds benefit the WCSU Alumni Association Student Scholarship Fund. \nThis year’s tournament will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of alumnus and former WCSU faculty member Neil Wagner’s passing\, and is the 37th golf event the Alumni Association has sponsored on behalf of the university\, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. \nRegistration begins at 8:30 a.m. during the continental breakfast\, and the scramble-format tournament tees off with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The event also features lunch at the turn\, hole-in-one prizes\, on-course activities and entertainment\, a par 3 giveaway and tournament prizes\, a silent auction and raffles. Seating is limited. Ticket sales end when the bus is full! No refunds unless the bus trip is canceled. All ART classes on Thurs\, Oct 19\, are canceled. (Arrangements may need to be made with instructors of other non-art classes.) SUMMARY:Biology Research Seminar
DESCRIPTION:UNRAVELING STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS\, CARBON DYNAMICS AND WATER USE EFFICIENCY OF ECOSYSTEMS USING REMOTE SENSING OBSERVATATIONS AND DEEP LEARNING: The Department of Biology invites everyone to the Biology Department Seminar Fall Series. Our next speaker is Dr. Katerina Trepekli from the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen. In this seminar\, Dr. Trepekli will present new approaches for estimating and projecting carbon stocks\, structural characteristics\, and tree-species distribution at the individual-tree scale\, by utilizing drone-based/airborne instrumentation\, deep learning\, and forest growth modelling. Based on the concepts of micrometeorology\, we will discuss the potentials of gas analyzers\, laser scanners\, multispectral and thermal imagery onboard drones to map water use efficiency and vegetation indices of ecosystems at cm spatial resolution. \nFrom 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 125 of the Science Building on the Midtown campus.

DESCRIPTION:(CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER) HIKE AT HUCKLEBERRY POINT AND UPPER JAPANESE FALLS: Join the WCSU Adventure Club as we hike Huckleberry Point. \nThis is a 5-mile hike at Huckleberry Point; when you get to the top you will see the beautiful Catskills on your right and Hudson River to the left. Transportation will be provided\, the Adventure Club will be traveling with a van. We will take a break for lunch so be sure to pack one! \nThe address is: 2425 Platte Clove Rd\, Elka Park\, NY 12427\nAnd the coordinates are: (42.133607°N\, 74.082241°W \nPlease bring plenty of water\, a lunch\, hiking shoes or boots (ones you aren’t afraid to get a little dirty)\, and dress appropriately for the weather (layers are encouraged as you may get hot while hiking)! \nSpace in the van is limited\, be sure to RSVP ASAP! \nTake a look at this ten-essentials list to prepare yourself for the woods along with our suggestions below. \nWhat to wear: \nFootwear with grippy soles\nShorts/pants appropriate for hiking\nhat/gloves \nWhat to consider:\nSnack\nFirst aid kit \nWhat to avoid:\nCotton.
