SUMMARY:Student Previews - Allegro
DESCRIPTION:STUDENT PREVIEWS – RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S ALLEGRO: This ensemble musical chronicles nearly four decades in the life of an Everyman\, Joseph Taylor\, Jr.\, from cradle through a mid-life discovery of who he is and what his life is truly about. The first musical to be staged by a director who also served as choreographer (the legendary Agnes de Mille)\, Allegro follows a unique structural format traveling from Joe’s birth through his childhood\, from college dorm to marriage altar\, and on to his career; from the tranquility of his small Midwestern hometown to the hectic din of big city life\, in a series of vignettes and musical sequences dazzling in their simplicity and stunning in their impact. Ahead of its time theatrically\, Allegro remains timeless in its appeal. Performed by WCSU students in the Department of Theatre Arts on the Main State Theatre from 8 to 10:30 p.m.  \nSpecial student preview night.

This success also brought her to the Food Network’s kitchen stadium where she judged for 10 consecutive seasons on “Iron Chef America.” \nCady’s other Broadway credits are her Tony-nominated performance as Ziegfeld’s Favorite in “The Will Rogers Follies\,” her Outer Critics Circle nominated performance in “The Nance\,” the original production of “La Cage Aux Folles\,” “Chicago\,” “Steel Pier\,” “Dame Edna: The Royal Tour” and Bob Fosse’s last original musical “Big Deal.” \nShe has had several guest starring appearances on television\, including recurring roles on “The Good Wife” and “Blue Bloods\,” “Younger\,” “Madam Secretary\,” “Master of None\,” “Difficult People\,” “Law & Order: SVU\,” “Law & Order: CI\,” “Law & Order: Trial by Jury\,” “Frasier” and “Mad About You.” Daytime audiences know her as the second Dr. Paige Miller on “One Life to Live” and Calista Lockhart on “Days of Our Lives.” \nCady’s film credits include “The Sixth Reel\,” “The Company Men\,” “Dare\,” “The Nanny Diaries\,” “Romance and Cigarettes” and “Hero.” \nCady co-created and stars in the 12-time 2022 Indie Series Award nominated digital series “CADY DID\,” which took home five trophies including two for Cady for producing and acting. She has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards for her work on the digital series “After Forever\,” for which she won the 2018 IAWT Award and won an Indie Series Award for “Best Guest Actress in a Comedy” for her work on “He’s With Me.” \nCady is also a busy director and musician. Production Stage Manager: Ryli Frisch. \nPresented in the Studio Theatre at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at WCSU. Runs October 7 through 16. \nAbout the Show\nFifty brides flee their fifty grooms and seek refuge in a villa on the coast of Italy in this modern re-making of one of the western world’s oldest plays\, The Danaids by Aeschylus. And\, in this villa on the Italian coast\, the fifty grooms catch up with the brides\, and mayhem ensues: the grooms arriving by helicopter in their flight suits\, women throwing themselves over and over again to the ground\, pop songs and romantic dances\, and\, finally\, unable to escape their forced marriages\, 49 of the brides murder 49 of the grooms-and one bride falls in love. About the same odds as today. \nNo refunds are permitted; all sales are final. Please note that tickets are subject to a higher price at the box office. The venue recommends purchasing your tickets in advance on wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com.

SUMMARY:Metamorphoses
DESCRIPTION:METAMORPHOSES: WCSU Dept. of Theatre presents Metamorphoses in our MainStage Theatre at 8 p.m. \nMETAMORPHOSES\nBased on the Myths of Ovid\nWritten and originally directed by Mary Zimmerman\nDirector: Sal Trapani \nFirst performed by students at Northwestern University\, where playwright Zimmerman is a professor of performance studies\, this play opened at Broadway’s Circle on the Square Theater in March 2002. Based on Ovid’s transformation myths\, the play subtly mixes the ancient stories of pathos and tragedy with contemporary language\, humor\, and thought. The themes of love\, the inevitability of change\, and the human ability to adapt to change are timeless\, as is amply demonstrated by the sometimes eerie closeness of a vignette to the original lines from Ovid\, which still manage to resonate with modern viewers. \nWe encourage purchasing your tickets in advance to ensure your seating. Tickets are subject to higher charge at the box office. \nNo refunds permitted\, all sales final.
