SUMMARY:The Mound Builders
DESCRIPTION:THE MOUND BUILDERS: At an archeological dig in the Midwest\, a party of university scientists are unearthing vestiges of a lost indigenous civilization. They are joined by family\, associates and an outsider with ulterior motives. The play interweaves past and present\, probing into the lives and conflicts of these disparate people. Their story reveals the lessons of our past and illuminates our collective blindness as we navigate the future. SUMMARY:Arts Technology Workshops
DESCRIPTION:SUMMER 2023 ARTS TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS: The Summer 2023 Arts Technology Workshops are open to all rising high school freshman through seniors who are interested in arts technology. \nThe arts industries are rapidly evolving; implementing new technologies and softwares that are changing the landscape of what it means to be an artist and technician. This two-day\, educational experience offers students the opportunity to learn cutting edge arts technology that will expose them to new means of creation\, and open doors to new pathways in the arts. The Arts Workshops begin at an introductory level and equips students with a unique and advanced skillset in their area. In addition to learning skills in the various forms of arts technology\, students will also get a real look at what it’s like to be a college student in the visual and performing arts. \nWCSU will provide all technology needed. The only thing the participant needs to bring is their smartphone (and charger!). Lunch will be provided on both days of the workshops. There is a $35.00 registration fee. Registration opens March 15. There are a limited number of spots available for each workshop. \nAll workshops take place in the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Western Connecticut State University\, located at 43 Lake Avenue Extension\, Danbury\, CT. This stunning\, new facility offers top-of-the-line arts technology\, with equipment and software outmatching most professional arts venues. \n\nAbout the Workshops\nThe student may select one of the three workshops to participate in during the weekend. \nMusic Production – SOLD OUT\nStudents will be introduced to professional-level software\, hardware\, and production techniques to use in the creation of their own original music. Students will work with skilled instructors in the Recording Studio\, Music Technology Lab\, and suite of Audio Production Practice Rooms. Following brief exposition modules on audio fundamentals\, sound design\, composition\, and software use\, students will have the opportunity to produce original music using our state-of-the-art technologies and audio resources. \nStop Motion\nStudents will be introduced to stop-motion animation through historical reviews\, scene photography and building of their own zoetrope\, one of the earliest forms of stop-motion animation. Using available software the zoetrope photos will be compiled into a final movie form. \nTheatre Stage & Sound Technology\nExplore scenic and sound design for theatrical productions using industry standard software including Vectorworks\, Sketch Up and Qlab.  Students will create a visual and aural landscape from scratch and explore how scenery and sound work together to create the environment of a theatre production. \n\nSchedule\nEach day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. Lunch will be provided from noon to 1:00 PM.
