DESCRIPTION:TANGO: PASIÓN Y CULTURA/ TANGO: PASSION AND CULTURE: Presentation by Dr. Makela Brizuela\,  University of Southern California\, Los Angeles. In this presentation\, professor Brizuela will explore the origins and evolution of tango\, a cultural phenomenon born as a fusion of African rhythms and European melodies and instruments in the Rio de la Plata region in present-day Argentina and Uruguay. Professor Brizuela holds her Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics from USC and is also a researcher\, practitioner\, instructor and choreographer of tango.
