SUMMARY:In Their Shoes: Author Talk with Joanna Dreby
DESCRIPTION:IN THEIR SHOES – AUTHOR TALK WITH JOANNA DREBY: Join students\, faculty\, and staff for a special program in partnership with The WCSU Libraries\, WCSU UndocuAlly\, Ben & Jerry’s\, CT Students for a Dream\, and ALCU Connecticut! \nIn “Surviving the ICE Age\,” sociologist Joanna Dreby draws on interviews with young adults with foreign-born parents to better understand what it was like to grow up during a time of heightened U.S. migratory control. Dreby also highlights stories that offer hope. Young adults developed strategies to persevere\, and children who grew up in communities and families that openly talked about migration felt empowered and fared much better\, especially when they had access to resources\, such as adequate food and shelter\, mental health services\, and community support.” \nRead more about Joanna Dreby at https://libguides.wcsu.edu/in_their_shoes/joanna_dreby and make sure to join us! \nWhen: Monday\, November 24 | 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\nWhere: Ruth A Haas Library\, Midtown campus

SUMMARY:Promoting Peace Within 2.0
DESCRIPTION:PROMOTING PEACE WITHIN 2.0:  The Institute for Holistic Health Studies\, along with the Office of Diversity\, Inclusion\, & Equality and the International Student Exchange program\, will present “Promoting Peace Within 2.0\,” an event that celebrates our common pursuit of tranquility in our hearts\, minds\, and spirits. Individually and/or in groups\, we all seek serenity and calm in our hearts while living in this hectic and unpredictable world.  We come from different cultures or traditions with their own practices or modalities to create inner stillness\, but we all seek the same inner peace. \nPromoting Peace Within 2.0 is a gathering of campus organizations\, each sharing cultural traditions and practices for creating stillness within. We will share our techniques and traditions and celebrate our connections to one another — our community.   Light refreshments will be served.  This event will be held in the Haas Library on the Midtown campus  from 4 – 5:30 p.m. \nCome and share your traditions and practices with us and discover that we all journey to the same destination — we just take different paths to get there. \nAll  are welcome. SUMMARY:Ancient Approaches to Modern Maladies
DESCRIPTION:ANCIENT APPROACHES TO MODERN MALADIES: Life in 21st century America is challenging and we all strive to be as healthy (in mind/body/spirit) as possible. Ancient non-Western philosophies and approaches to health and wellbeing have served many civilizations and cultures for centuries — and without the use of pharmaceuticals or other expensive treatments. What can we learn from them to address diseases and conditions prevalent in our society today? \nCome to the first floor of the Haas Library on the Midtown campus from 1 to 2:30 p.m.\, to learn from students in Professor Christel Autuori’s Honors class (Ancient Approaches to Modern Maladies). We will share information and practices that can be integrated into our 21st century lives for better health and vitality. \nFor additional information\, please contact Christel Autuori at autuoric@wcsu.edu
