I’M FIRST:<\/strong> The concept of a \u201cFirst-Generation\u201d student was introduced into federal policy by the passage of higher education amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965. As a result of this amendment, we have the opportunity to celebrate those who have made huge strides in this country, and have become the first in their families to attend college.<\/p>\n

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/span> on Monday, Nov. 8, WCSU will join in a day of celebration with other colleges across the nation that are engaged in a number of different activities, highlighting First-Generation students on campus. Students, faculty, staff, and administration will have the opportunity to share their own personal experiences as a First-Generation college student, and the impact that experience has had on their lives. Please obtain a free I’m First Shirt at the Pre-Collegiate and Access Programs.<\/p>\n

10 a.m. – Please gather at the Higgins Hall Patio<\/p>\n

10 a.m. \u2013 2 p.m.: Students, faculty, and administration will share their experiences<\/p>\n

1:50 p.m. \u2013 First-Generation students and graduates group picture<\/p>\n

2 p.m. \u2013 Event concludes<\/p>\n

Light refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n
