The sunset is around 6:15 p.m., it&#8217;s a ~45 minute hike to the summit as a group. We will meet at the parking lot at <span style=\"color: #c70000\">5 p.m.<\/span> with an intent to start hiking at 5:15 p.m. Transportation will not be provided and those in attendance are expected to carpool and find their own ride. Limited carpooling will be offered from the Midtown campus police station, departure is at 4:10 p.m. Please contact <a href=\"mailto:tarbet002@wcsu.edu\">tarbet002@wcsu.edu<\/a> to see if there are remaining seats.<\/p>\n<p>Macricostas Preserve Parking:\u00a041.68288, -73.33368<\/p>\n<p>What to wear:<\/p>\n<p>Footwear with grippy soles<br \/>\nPants for the weather<br \/>\nLayers for the upper body<\/p>\n<p>What to consider:<\/p>\n<p>Hat<br \/>\nGloves<br \/>\nSomething insulated to sit on-the rock at the summit is hard AND cold<br \/>\nSnack\/dinner\/something to eat<br \/>\nFirst aid kit<br \/>\nTrekking poles<\/p>\n<p>What to avoid:<\/p>\n<p>Cotton. It kills. It does not wick moisture and it does not dry<\/p>\n<p>What to bring:<\/p>\n<p>Small backpack\/day pack<br \/>\nPreferably a headlamp. If not available, a flashlight. The phone should NOT be your light source<br \/>\nWater<br \/>\nExtra layers<\/p>\n<p>Words of advice:<\/p>\n<p>The ascent is steep. Avoid sweating by managing your layers while hiking. Having a base layer, a mid layer and an outer layer allows for more options than a big heavy parka. The ground may be wet, icy or slippery. Flat-soled shoes are guaranteed to have you on your rear end. Leave them home. The Pinnacle is exposed. There is always a breeze and it will get colder when the sun goes down. Additional layers for the upper and lower body are highly recommended. A headlamp offers a hands-free operation. You will need your hands to maintain your balance during the descent or to hold on to your trekking poles.<\/p>\n<p>Leave No Trace.
