Career Peer Leader

Description: The Career Peer Leader (CPL) is primarily involved with the daily operations of the Career Success Center. This position’s duties can include, but not limited to, meeting with students and alumni and provide career counseling. There is plenty of room to build your skills while being an integral part of the CSC family.

Responsibilities: Be an essential part of the Career Success Center team, leading the coaching, mentoring, and guiding of their peers through the career learning and decision-making process. Assist students, alumni and employers with questions on the CSC programs and services; support research for marketing and program development; maintain currency on and demonstrate use of WCSU career e-tools and assisting other students with access; assist with tabling events as needed; post career workshop events and job listings as needed, and provide feedback and advice to the CSC career experts on student engagement. Student team members may also provide essential office support which can include filing, typing, photocopying, and mailings while multi-tasking between client (student/alumni-facing) activities and assigned projects. Our students must maintain confidentiality about their work and have good working habits.

Projects Include: Support campus students/alumni, employers, and customers through peer mentor advice and support, general office functions, researching and posting job listings, WordPress/Website creation, social media management, and assisting with other administration, as required.

Requirements/Desired: Must be in good academic standing.  Excellent computer knowledge for both MAC and PC environments.  Knowledge of and experience with general website design, HANDSHAKE, WordPress, familiarization with Adobe Creative are a plus but not required; some projects may involve support to basic video creation through simple online software.  Ability to organize and prioritize work and be detail oriented. Good communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships within and outside of the Career Service office. Have a strong understanding of virtual platforms and video conferencing such as Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams.

Hours/Schedule: CSC office hours are 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

There may be opportunities to work extended hours in support of workshops/events outside of typical daily hours. Work hours can be flexible within these days and can typically be adjusted by talking with the Career Success Center Director and Administrative Assistant.

Pay Rate: $15.00 / hr.
