The 48-35 victory marked the second ECAC Championship for the Colonials. \u00a0They defeated Nichols College, 63-10 for the Northeast title in 2000. After posting an impressive 7-2 season, Western entered the championship game, held at Salve Regina\u2019s Gaudet Field in Newport, R.I., on a four-game winning streak to end the regular season. The Colonials posted a 6-2 record in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The outstanding season was marked by the national attention received when running back Octavias McKoy broke an all-time collegiate record for rushing yards in October. McKoy and fellow running back Eddy Williams were named co-most valuable players after leading the Colonials to victory in the title bowl.
