People may also call your RD the \u201cHall Director\u201d, which is another term used at colleges around the country.<\/p>\n<p><b>Central Office<\/b> \u2013 Often referred to as the Housing Office, this is where the administrative offices for the department host the director, the director for residential programs &amp; staff, the associate director for operations, and the department\u2019s secretary.\u00a0 The Central Office is currently located in Pinney Hall C21.<\/p>\n<p><b>Housing<\/b> \u2013 Often, our department\u2019s name is shortened to simply \u201chousing\u201d.\u00a0 Whether you call us Housing or HRL or Housing &amp; Residence Life, we\u2019re here to work with you to provide you with an excellent campus experience that enhances your college years.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel\n\t\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-anchor-id=\"student-staff\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header-container\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-label-student-staff\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content-student-staff\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-title sow-accordion-title-icon-left\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStudent Staff\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf218;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf209;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"sow-accordion-panel-content\"\n\t\t\t\trole=\"region\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-label-student-staff\"\n\t\t\t\tid=\"accordion-content-student-staff\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"display: none;\"\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-border\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>RA<\/b> \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Resident Assistants<\/span> (RAs) are peer students who help with the oversight of the building, and provide service to smaller groups of students within the halls.\u00a0 RAs usually oversee a section or floor of the building, and provide leadership, community-building, socialization, and development programs.<\/p>\n<p><b>ARM<\/b> \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Academic Resource Mentors<\/span> (ARMs) are peer students who serve as academic coaches to help students who are struggling, or who simply want to improve their academic performance.\u00a0 They do this through individual meetings, group study sessions, programs on academic skills (like time management or note-taking), interactions with professors, and access to campus resources.\u00a0 Each building has one or two ARMs available who live in the hall.<\/p>\n<p><b>SAA<\/b> \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Student Administrative Assistants<\/span> (SAAs) assist the RD with administrative tasks, such as logging maintenance requests, entering priority points, etc.\u00a0 The SAA also helps to supervise and schedule the Info Desk staff.<\/p>\n<p><b>Info Desk Staff<\/b> \u2013 student workers (including the building\u2019s RA staff) are hired to work at each building\u2019s info desk, helping to assure those entering the building are residents.\u00a0 They are also responsible for distributing mail, as well as checking out games and other equipment available to residents of the building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Community Assistant\u00a0<\/strong>- the SCA is an experienced RA or graduate student who provides leadership and community development within a residence hall. Working under the supervision of the RD, the SCA focuses on the day-to-day operation of the hall, assisting with Info Desk operations, maintenance issues, student conduct and conflict resolution, and other issues.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel\n\t\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-anchor-id=\"leadership\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header-container\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-label-leadership\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content-leadership\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-title sow-accordion-title-icon-left\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLeadership\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf218;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf209;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"sow-accordion-panel-content\"\n\t\t\t\trole=\"region\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-label-leadership\"\n\t\t\t\tid=\"accordion-content-leadership\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"display: none;\"\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-border\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Hall Council<\/b> \u2013 each residence hall has a hall council, which is comprised of volunteer students who plan programs and assist RAs and ARMs with programs intended for students in the hall.\u00a0 Hall Councils also may do community service, review damage billing, and other tasks.\u00a0 Any student in the hall may participate in hall council, including running for Exec. Board offices.<\/p>\n<p><b>IRHA<\/b> \u2013 is the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Inter-Residence Hall Association<\/span>.\u00a0 Made up of representatives from each residence hall, IRHA provides campus-wide programs, as well as funding to support Hall Council, RA, or ARM programs from time to time.\u00a0 IRHA is a conduit for comments between students and food service, meeting each semester with Sodexo management for feedback.\u00a0 They also provide feedback to the HRL staff about the student residential experience on campus.<\/p>\n<p><b>PASS<\/b> \u2013 students who\u2019ve been on campus at least one semester, and whose grade point average is above a 3.0, may wish to join PASS, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Peer Academic Support Services<\/span> team.\u00a0 PASS volunteers may opt to offer tutoring assistance to fellow residents in subjects they excel in. (*There is also a PASS program offered through the EA2P program, which is different than this program.)\u00a0 PASS members are identified within the building by special door decs which indicate their subject matter(s) of focus.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel\n\t\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-anchor-id=\"building-specific\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div (see abbreviations below) , along with White Hall, Warner Hall, Haas Library, Berkshire Hall, Higgins Hall, the Student Center, Old Main, University Hall, the Science Building, the Kathwari Honors House, Campus Police, 190 White Street warehouse, and the White Street and 5<sup>th<\/sup> Ave. parking garages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>FH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Fairfield Hall<\/li>\n<li><b>LH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Litchfield Hall<\/li>\n<li><b>NH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Newbury Hal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Westside<\/b> \u2013 the Westside Campus is located on Danbury\u2019s Westside.\u00a0 It is home to 3 more residence halls (see abbreviations below), along with the Centennial parking garage, the Campus Center, the Westside Classroom building, the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC), the Westside Athletic Complex (WAC), the O\u2019Neill Center, the Ives Center for the Performing Arts, and a variety of athletic fields and trails, including the Westside Nature Preserve.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>CH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Centennial Hall<\/li>\n<li><b>GH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Grasso Hall<\/li>\n<li><b>PH<\/b> \u2013 abbreviation for Pinney Hal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Info Desk<\/b> \u2013 the Info Desks are welcoming areas at the entrance to each hall.\u00a0 Everyone entering the hall must pass by the info desks.\u00a0 Residents of the building are required to show their IDs, for which they receive a sticker indicating that they live in that building.<\/p>\n<p><b>Residence Halls vs. Dorms<\/b> \u2013 it\u2019s rare that we\u2019ll call our buildings \u2018dorms\u2019, because we don\u2019t consider them that way \u2013 sleepy, 1950\u2019s buildings ruled by housemothers through demerits and punishment.\u00a0 Instead, we hope you\u2019ll find that they\u2019re vibrant communities planned to provide opportunities to learn from our fellow students, learn about living in community, understand and explore diversity, and create that is published to your university email 3 times each semester, with articles contributed by the Academic Resource Mentor (ARM) staff.\u00a0 <strong><em>The Handout<\/em><\/strong> offers tips and tricks to build one\u2019s academic and life skills, resources to find help at WCSU, and a variety of health and fun tips for students.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gab &amp; GROW<\/b> \u2013 a podcast hosted by our director for residential programs and staff that focuses on campus resources, life skills, scholarly advice, and student to student tips about finding success at WCSU.<\/p>\n<p><b>OJR<\/b> \u2013 each fall, the HRL department sponsors <u>Operation Jungle Red<\/u>, a series of programs focused on violence and violence prevention.\u00a0 Generally, these programs are held in October in conjunction href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a> after you have paid a housing deposit.\u00a0 Once you\u2019ve paid your deposit (and waited approx. 6 hours for the process to run that shows a paid deposit), you can enter the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a> to complete an application.\u00a0 Your application must be fully completed, meaning any question that is marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled in.\u00a0 We ask you a lot of information on the application, but it makes things much easier for you when it\u2019s time to select roommates and choose your rooms and meal plans.\u00a0 Please be sure to read information or watch the helpful videos you\u2019ll find on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a> pages for tips!<\/p>\n<p><!--[endif]--><b>Deposit<\/b> \u2013 there is a non-refundable, $250.00 housing deposit required EACH YEAR a student lives on campus.\u00a0 The deposit deadline for new students in order to guarantee a space on campus is May 1<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 Returning students have a earlier deadline, usually in mid- to late-March, in order to be eligible to participate in room selection.<\/p>\n<p><b>RIF<\/b> \u2013 This is the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Room Inventory Form<\/span>.\u00a0 When you arrive on campus, you\u2019ll need to complete this form, indicating the condition of your room, suite, or apartment and its contents.\u00a0 Be sure to take 5-10 minutes to complete this form thoroughly \u2013 it is used to compare the room\u2019s condition when you check-out, and will be used for damage billing purposes.<\/p>\n<p><b>SAP<\/b> \u2013 is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Satisfactory Academic Progress<\/span>.\u00a0 There are other offices and activities which use SAP regulations (such as Financial Aid and athletics).\u00a0 For Housing, SAP means that students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher, and complete 12 or more credits per semester, in order to remain eligible to live in on-campus housing.\u00a0 If you are worried about your status, please speak to your RD.<\/p>\n<p><b>Judicial\/Code of Conduct<\/b> \u2013 the University has a Code of Conduct, which are rules and regulations students must follow to be allowed to remain a member of the WCSU community. You may read through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/judicial-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/173\/2020\/08\/2.1-StudentCodeofConduct.pdf\">Code here<\/a>. The Code of Conduct is administered by the University Judicial Affairs Office.\u00a0 Often, violations of residence hall policies are investigated and adjudicated by the Resident Directors of your building.<\/p>\n<p><b>Documented<\/b> \u2013 when you are alleged to have violated a university or residence hall rule or regulation, staff members document that via an Incident Report (IR) that is filed with Judicial Affairs.<\/p>\n<p><b>Early Arrival<\/b> \u2013 when possible, HRL will allow for selected students to return to campus prior to the official check-in date.\u00a0 If this option is available, posting will be announced and a form will be available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a> which will need to be completed before permission is given.<\/p>\n<p><b>Room Selection<\/b> \u2013 each semester, students returning to live on campus for the following semester will need to indicate where and with whom they intend to live for the next semester, and\/or participate in this process to secure that space.\u00a0 Information about the selection process will be posted online, in the halls, and emailed to your campus emails.<\/p>\n<p><b>Withdrawal<\/b> \u2013 if you are leaving housing, whether you are leaving WCSU or just the residence halls, you need to inform HRL via email and by completing a Housing Contract Cancellation Request Form, which can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a>. Please see information in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/housing\/ylhcontract\/\">Year Long Contract<\/a> regarding withdrawal and costs.<\/p>\n<p><b>Intersession<\/b> \u2013 the period of time between the Fall and Spring semesters.\u00a0 Campus is usually closed for intersession, but there may be housing available at an additional cost in specific buildings.\u00a0 If intersession housing is available, applications and information will be posted on the <a href=\"\/housing\/announcements\/\">Announcements &amp; Events<\/a> page and the <a href=\"\/housing\/forms-2\/\">FORMS<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p><b>Breaks<\/b> \u2013 There is one \u201cbreak\u201d period each semester: <i>Thanksgiving Break<\/i> in the Fall, and <i>Spring Break <\/i>in the Spring.\u00a0 The residence halls and dining services close during these breaks, but students who wish to may opt to stay on campus.\u00a0 Forms will be available in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a>\u00a0for you to apply to stay (there is no extra charge for these two breaks). Forms will be available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a> approximately 3 weeks prior to the break period.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gender Neutral Housing<\/b> \u2013 most of the housing offered at WCSU is assigned according to the legal gender of the student (males with males, females with females).\u00a0 We also offer an option for students living on the Westside Campus who, for a variety of reasons, may not care or wish to be placed with students without regard to gender or sexuality.\u00a0 These students may opt to select Gender Neutral Housing when completing their applications in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcsu.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/wcsu_thdss_prod\">Housing Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel\n\t\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-anchor-id=\"forms\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header-container\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-header\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-label-forms\" aria-controls=\"accordion-content-forms\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-title sow-accordion-title-icon-left\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tForms\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-open-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf218;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-close-button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"sow-icon-ionicons\" data-sow-icon=\"&#xf209;\"\n\t\t \n\t\taria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"sow-accordion-panel-content\"\n\t\t\t\trole=\"region\"\n\t\t\t\taria-labelledby=\"accordion-label-forms\"\n\t\t\t\tid=\"accordion-content-forms\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"display: none;\"\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"sow-accordion-panel-border\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Guest Visit Parental Permission<\/b> \u2013 when students wish to have a guest visit campus who is between the ages of 14 and 18, the visiting student\u2019s parent MUST complete <a href=\"\/housing\/forms\/guest-permission\/\">this form<\/a> in order to allow that guest to visit the resident student.\u00a0 Permission may be granted for one of two options:\u00a0 a one-time only permission (check box for ONE TIME), or for the entire semester (check box for SEMESTER).\u00a0 We require the forms to be submitted at least 24 hours in advance of the visit, and for weekend visits (Saturday and Sunday) forms must be received no later than noon on the preceding Friday, as our offices and email are not covered during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: red;\">(*athletic recruits coming to campus who will be visiting the halls\/staying over with a team member will need to complete and bring with you two (2) copies of the Student Athlete Visitation Form, which is available from the coach of your team).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Disability Housing Accommodations<\/b> \u2013 if you believe you qualify for special accommodations for housing due to a disability, you must complete a housing accommodation form (available at the AAS office) and submit it to the <a href=\"mailto:aas@wcsu.edu\">AccessAbilities Services<\/a> office.\u00a0 They will review the request and, in conjunction with HRL, Counseling, and Health Service, determine what, if any, accommodations are to be offered.<\/p>\n<p><!--[endif]--><b>Housing Contract Cancellation Request <\/b>(HCCR) \u2013 any time you are leaving housing (moving out) before the end of the semester or year, you must complete a <a href=\"http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/housing\/forms\/contract-cancellation\/\">Housing Contract Cancellation Request<\/a>, <strong>and<\/strong> you should email <a href=\"mailto:housing@wcsu.edu\">housing@wcsu.edu<\/a> to notify the office as well.\u00a0 The HCCR informs us of your intention to withdraw from housing, <u>and<\/u> it allows you to request the cancellation of your contract for the remainder of the year.\u00a0\u00a0Please see information in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/housing\/ylhcontract\/\">Year Long Housing Contract<\/a> page regarding due dates and associated costs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maintenance Request Form\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 when you have a maintenance issue in your room, suite, or apartment (overhead light burned out, kitchen sink clogged), you should complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/housing\/forms-2\/maintenance-work-order\/\">Maintenance Request Form<\/a>, which asks the nature and location of your issue.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be asked to provide 3 times that the maintenance staff might be able to come to the room to evaluate and repair the issue.\u00a0 Once you submit the form, it\u2019s delivered to your RD, who then contacts maintenance.
