At any college, your experience is what you make of it. At WCSU, there are ample outlets on-campus, both within HRL and elsewhere, for you to get involved in and make the most of your experience here!<\/p>\n
Each residence hall has a Hall Council, which consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and an IRHA Representative. Every year, residents within their respective building have the opportunity to \u201ccampaign\u201d for these positions, and get elected into a position by a vote from the rest of the resident body in the building. It is a great leadership opportunity and way to get involved in HRL and on-campus.<\/p>\n
Hall Councils hold weekly meetings, which all residents in their respective buildings are encouraged to attend. In these meetings, money from the building budget (funded by the Residence Hall Social Fee) is allocated and voted on by that week\u2019s attendees, upcoming programs and events are discussed, and general updates and building overviews are given.<\/p>\n
Participating in, or attending, Hall Council is a great stepping stone for those interested in becoming an RA\/ARM in the future!<\/p>\n
Think of IRHA as the Council for all the Hall Councils. IRHA holds meetings once per week, and every building\u2019s IRHA Representative is sent to those meetings to represent that respective building and its interests.<\/p>\n
IRHA as a whole is Housing\u2019s chief campus-wide programming body, planning and hosting campus-wide programs for all residential students throughout the year, alongside each building\u2019s RAs and ARMs.<\/p>\n
IRHA is led by a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Coordinator, and National Conference Coordinator. Again, all residents are eligible to campaign for any of these positions, and get elected in by the IRHA attending body. Each school has their version of an IRHA, and the ones in New England meet each semester for a large-scale conference. The NCC coordinates WCSU\u2019s involvement in that.<\/p>\n
Along with the IRHA Rep from each residence hall, any and all residents are welcome to attend the weekly IRHA meetings!<\/p>\n
Each residence hall has a staff of Resident Assistants and Academic Resource Mentors (RAs and ARMs). Throughout the year, they plan and host periodic programs and events for residents of their respective building. These programs and events center around various programming categories\u2014cultural awareness, current events, civic engagement, academic success, community building, and more. Monies from the Residence Hall Social Fee are used to fund these programs and events. Generally speaking, there is one program per month hosted by each RA\/ARM in the residence halls.<\/p>\n
Students who have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher can volunteer to tutor fellow students in their best subjects as a PASS Volunteer. PASS Volunteers are identified and recruited through the ARM of the building. Being a PASS Volunteer is a great way to get involved, meet other residents, and accumulate some great volunteer experience for your resume! PASS volunteers also receive Priority Points for their volunteer work helping their fellow residents.<\/p>\n
Whether within HRL or elsewhere, WCSU offers a variety of unique clubs and organizations for residents to get involved with. What\u2019s more, if you don\u2019t find anything that you\u2019re interested in, you can always take the steps to create your own club! We do our best to make sure there\u2019s something for everyone, so that everyone feels included and connected to the University.
