Why We Celebrate Black History Month and the 2025 Theme<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Black History Month, observed every February, honors the contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout history. It began in 1926 as “Negro History Week,” founded by historian Carter G. Woodson, and evolved into a month-long celebration officially recognized in 1976.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each year, a theme highlights specific aspects of Black history. The 2025 theme, “African Americans and Labor,”<\/strong> focuses on the role of work in Black experiences\u2014spanning from slavery to entrepreneurship and labor movements. This theme underscores the vital contributions of African Americans in shaping the nation’s economic and cultural foundations.<\/span><\/p>\n
