Alyssa C."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alyssa C. was a Psychology major who went to Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka Prefecture in Spring 2012 as a junior.\u00a0 She has since graduated from WCSU.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Hirakata, Japan, Kansai Gaidai University:<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0 100px 20px 0;\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Dog-Statue-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"237\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Outing-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"238\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alyssa C. attended Kansai Gaidai University in Japan in the Spring of 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>What were your favorite and least favorite foods?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa: <em>My favorite foods were curry, gyudon, and okonomiyaki.\u00a0 My lest favorite food was Japanese pizza (has mayonnaise on it). <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0 100px 20px 0;\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-View-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"314\" height=\"237\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Sumo-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"239\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Did you travel a lot?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa:<em> Yes, to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Tokyo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>What did you do during your free time?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa: <em>During my free time I hung out in the seminar house with many of my friends, went out to bars and clubs, and ate a lot of food!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0 100px 20px 0;\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Pagoda-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"389\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Tower-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"390\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>What were your favorite and least favorite things to do while abroad?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa: <em>My favorite things were to discover new places to eat and travel and make new friends.\u00a0 My least favorite thing was going to the bathroom on a Japanese style toilet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Was communicating easy?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa:<em> No.\u00a0 At first, I didn&#8217;t know any Japanese or even how to order food, so I had to have my friends help me, but after a few weeks I got used to it.\u00a0 Not as many people in Osaka speak English as in Tokyo.\u00a0 I did learn basic Japanese, and i don&#8217;t consider myself fluent, but I can communicate with people and read and write Japanese.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>What difference did you find with regards to academics?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa: <em>The classes were much different.\u00a0 Japanese classes were five times a week and were pretty difficult.\u00a0 However, our lecture courses taught in English were very easy compared to home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to other students traveling abroad?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Alyssa: <em>Although you may read about culture shock, there&#8217;s nothing like experiencing it.\u00a0 It gets pretty scary in the beginning and you&#8217;ll doubt why you ever decided to travel, but force yourself to get out and try new things and you&#8217;ll love it!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0 100px 20px 0;\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-Students-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"233\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/isep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2016\/12\/Japan-University-AC-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"233\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>How would you summarize your overall experience?<\/b><br \/>\nAlyssa: <em>I absolutely loved everything about my trip and was sad to leave at the end.\u00a0 I\u00a0 will never forget the people I lived with, and we&#8217;re already planning our reunions.\u00a0 This trip was a once in a lifetime experience, and I wouldn&#8217;t have had it any other way.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alyssa C. was a Psychology major who went to Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka Prefecture in Spring 2012 as a junior.\u00a0 She has since graduated from WCSU.
