{"id":8,"date":"2018-05-30T14:24:38","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T14:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/math\/?page_id=8"},"modified":"2022-11-22T17:31:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-22T17:31:07","slug":"math-emporium","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/math\/math-emporium\/","title":{"rendered":"Math Emporium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coordinator: Mr. Thomas Grant<br \/>\nemail: granttt@wcsu.edu<br \/>\nphone: (203)-837-9370<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Math Emporium<\/strong> in HI 122\/123 is where WCSU developmental math courses are taught.<\/p>\n<p>These courses are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MAT 098 \u2013 Beginning Algebra &#8211; 0 credits (3 load credits with no academic credit)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This course is held in the fall semester only for those who place into 100P, but need to take their time to learn more fully the basic skills and understanding.\u00a0 Passing this course prepares you to take MAT 100, preferably the following semester.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MAT 100 \u2013 Intermediate Algebra &#8211; 3 credits<\/li>\n<li>MAT 100P \u2013 Intermediate Algebra Plus (includes 098 essential topics and all of the 100 content \u2013 taken in one semester) &#8211; 4 credits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These courses use a dynamic online learning platform called ALEKS.\u00a0 It presents each student with a learning path through topics chosen to fit each student\u2019s level of understanding and progress as their knowledge grows.<\/p>\n<p>The Math Emporium is also open generous hours as a drop-in help center, exclusively for students enrolled in the three courses listed above.\u00a0 The teaching assistants for the classes are also available other times as this computer lab is open six days a week.\u00a0 See below under \u2018Schedule for Classes and Teaching Assistants\u2019 to find out when each TA is available to help you<\/p>\n<p>The open hours for the Fall 2022 semester are as follows:<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;background: white;margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt .5in\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt;font-family: Montserrat;color: #444444\">Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 am to 7 pm<br \/>\nTuesday from 11 am to 7 pm<br \/>\nFriday from 8 am to 5 pm<br \/>\nSunday from 2 pm to 8 pm<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here is a link to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.wcsu.edu\/channel\/WCSU+Math+Emporium+Video+Lessons\/49191691\">Math Emporium channel<\/a> on WCSU\u2019s MediaSpace.
