{"id":93,"date":"2018-05-30T18:25:22","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T18:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/math\/?page_id=93"},"modified":"2022-09-08T16:44:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T16:44:49","slug":"praxis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/math\/praxis\/","title":{"rendered":"PRAXIS Subject Assessment &#8211; Mathematics (5165) Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To earn your Secondary Education\/Mathematics certification (Endorsement Code #029) in Connecticut, you will need to earn at least a 159 on the PRAXIS Subject Assessment Mathematics (5165) exam.\u00a0 There may be restrictions imposed on the number of attempts you are allowed.\u00a0 Therefore,you will need to carefully prepare for this exam <em>prior<\/em>\u00a0to taking it.\u00a0 Here are some things to consider before you register for the exam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/content\/ets-org\/language-master\/en\/home\/praxis\/ct\/epp\/state-requirements\/certification.html\">CT Test Requirements<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maprequest.ets.org\/tcenter\/MQResultsPRX.jsp?searchBy=LOC&amp;country=US&amp;state=CT\">Test Centers<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>When should I take the exam?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Praxis Subject Assessment assesses both math content and the ability to help students understand this math content.\u00a0 The content assessment portion is 75% of the exam, and assesses content from: Number &amp; Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Calculus, Geometry and Statistics &amp; Probability.\u00a0 The remaining 25% assesses this content applied to a Task of Teaching Mathematics.\u00a0 Therefore, it would be ideal to take the exam after completing MAT 182, MAT 207, MAT 222, MAT 343, and MAT 375.\u00a0 For practicality, you should plan to take the exam while enrolled in MAT 375, but begin preparing while enrolled in these other courses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You are required to pass the PRAXIS Subject Assessment before entering your professional semester.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>How do I start preparing?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Begin by reading the ETS\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/praxis\/site\/test-takers\/resources\/prep-materials.html?examId=5165\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Preparation Mat<span class=\"style7\">erials<\/span><\/a>, including their\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/content\/dam\/ets-org\/pdfs\/praxis\/5165.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study Guide Companion<\/a><\/em><span class=\"style7\">.
