Producer\/composer\/musician Steve Shapiro has recorded with many jazz and pop legends
\nincluding Ornette Coleman, Phil Collins, SpyroGyra, Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack, Regina Belle, Pat Martino, and They Might Be Giants. He performed on Steely Dan’s Two Against Nature, which received four Grammy Awards including Album-of-the-Year.<\/p>\n

Steve\u2019s compositions and arrangements have appeared in hundreds of television and film
\nprojects, including work related to over forty Disney\/Pixar feature film releases. In addition, he\u2019s been a pioneer of audio and midi technology since the earliest computer music systems, such as the Synclavier, with countless sessions as synth programmer and sound designer. He studied percussion with artists Bob Moses, Dave Samuels, and David Friedman, composition with jazz icon Steve Swallow, and at Yale under Anthony Davis. He has received awards from Berklee College of Music and IAJE, and has been featured in magazines such as Downbeat, JazzTimes, The Village Voice, JazzEd, Video-Systems, and Modern Drummer. MIX magazine dubbed Steve a “triple-threat musician.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of Steve’s first pro recording experiences was at RCA Studios in NYC with Frank Sinatra’s
\nengineer, Paul Goodman. Since then, he’s been fortunate to learn from some of the best in the
\nindustry: Roger Nichols, Larry Swist, Geoff Daking, Paul Special, Gary Chester, Josiah Gluck, Steve
\nMarcantonio, and Butch Jones. Steve’s professional audio interests led to his role supervising the
\ndesign and construction of a number of NYC recording studios.<\/p>\n

Steve also brings decades of experience with the business side of music. He is creator and
\npublisher of the Flashpoint production music library, used by major broadcasters including FOX,
\nNBC, A&E and ESPN, and acquired by Sony\/EMI Music Publishing in 2019. His extensive
\nexperience with top-level creative, legal, and marketing executives in film, television, and
\nadvertising allows him to share a unique music-industry perspective. His wide background spans
\nprofessional music production, audio and video technology, composition, performance, music
\nrights, publishing, and contracts.<\/p>\n

Steve remains an active teacher and clinician, and has lectured at Yale University, NYU,
\nUniversity of Delaware, and presented at The Percussive Arts Society International Convention
\nand the World Vibe Congress. He is a Yamaha and Zildjian\/Balter performing artist.<\/p>\n
