{"id":10,"date":"2019-07-17T18:17:46","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/10-minuteplayandwebisodefestival\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:17:46","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:46","slug":"10-minuteplayandwebisodefestival","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/10-minuteplayandwebisodefestival\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 WCSU to host 10-Minute Play and Webisode Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  The Western Connecticut State University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/catalogs\/undergraduate\/sas\/programs\/writing.asp\">department of writing, linguistics and creative process<\/a> will present a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/tenminuteplay\/\">10-Minute Play and Webisode Festival<\/a> featuring readings and viewings of works written by students from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, <strong>April 14, 2012<\/strong>, in the Student Center Theater on the university&#8217;s Midtown campus, 181 White Street in Danbury. The event will be free and the public is invited.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity to experience a stage reading or viewing of their work by professionals, as well as the ability to network with Broadway and media experts, proved enticing enough to yield 78 play and webisode entries from students in the Connecticut State University system. A jury of entertainment and media professionals has narrowed the field to 14 plays and 11 webisodes that will be read or viewed during the festival. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The plays will include: \u201cTen to Places\u201d by Andrew Hendrick, of Fairfield; \u201cRetake\u201d by Conor Daniel Bartram, of Hamden; \u201cThe Pipes are Calling\u201d by Levon Ofgang, of New Fairfield; \u201cCell Thoughts\u201d by Jazmin Sharif, of Waterbury; \u201cThe Collagers\u201d by Jim Goggin, of Naugatuck; \u201cWanted for Dinner\u201d by Elizabeth Young, of Newtown; \u201cBabysitting Days\u201d by Shawna O\u2019Sullivan, of Newtown; \u201cClean Sweep\u201d by Thomasina Murray, of Danbury; \u201cDirt Cheap\u201d by Kristin Askin, of Danbury; \u201cThat Thing Called Trust\u201d by Sean Zackrison, of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; \u201cThe Traveler\u2019s Daughter\u201d by Lynn Wright, of Monroe; \u201cCurveball\u201d by Tyler Miressi, of Monroe; \u201cThe Sixth Shot\u201d by Eric Steiner, of New Milford; and \u201cThat\u2019s the Sprirt\u201d by Eileen D. Gonzalez, of Katonah, N.Y. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The webisodes are: \u201cIntro \u2013 Sally &amp; Horace\u201d by Kay Abella, of Washington Depot; \u201cNot Arranged Marriage\u201d by Nabila Hasan, of Bethel; \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d by Brittany Nisco, of New Milford; \u201cJustice with a Chaser\u201d by Elizabeth Young, of Newtown; \u201cAmbien Man\u201d by Michael Kazlauskas, of Ridgefield; \u201cBe Down Inc.\u201d by Taja Malcolm-Lewin, of Bridgeport; \u201cSuper Hero\u201d and \u201cWar Stories\u201d by Greg Miller, of Southbury; \u201cSerious Inquiries Only\u201d by Steve Marucci, of Danbury; \u201cDalai Lama\u201d by Christian Gagnier, of New Milford; and \u201cHistorical Danbury\u201d by Joshua Adams, of New Milford.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The jury consists of 13 judges, including: <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>George Leclere, former media director for the United Nations and president of the International Emmy Awards. An international consultant, Leclere has many projects in Russia, South Korea and China. He also has a hand in the Banff Film Festival. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Neil Hickey, former chief editor of TV Guide. Hickey currently teaches at the Columbia School of Journalism and is on the board of Arts on the Lake, providing a stage for new playwrights. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Julie Poll, a writer on the Board of Governors of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She was consulting producer for the Daytime Emmys and has authored books on media. Poll has judged the annual International Emmy\u2019s Young Writers Awards. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Manuela Metri, head producer at Red Box Productions in Beverly Hills, Calif., and Rome, Italy. She has produced, directed and acted in many plays, including \u201cMenopause, the Musical.\u201d Metri also acted in the soap opera \u201cThe Bold and the Beautiful.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Margo McKee, a playwright, director, producer and actor who co-authored two off-Broadway productions and has performed as a play \u201cdoctor\u201d for others. McKee\u2019s company, Soundstage, has trained thousands of actors and directors in New York City and Los Angeles. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Angelin, a professional actress with international credits. She is a member of the Actors Equity, the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Irish Equity. Angelin has achieved the highest level of Alba Emoting International Certification. She is a teacher and practitioner of the Alba method. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Alida Jay, a lead researcher for the Location Managers Guild of America, is currently developing a dramatic series for cable. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Muir, a radio and television performer and member of the Screen Actors Guild. She is producer and director of events for the N.Y. chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Cole, an actress, director and professor of theatre at Framingham State University in Massachusetts. She also is a playwright and has won international recognition for her exploration of the plight of women veterans in \u201cAftermath.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Cynthia Link, an author and playwright who has been part of the Arlene Dahl Play-Reading Series presented by the N.Y. chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She has served as juror for the International Emmy\u2019s Young Writers Award. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Chip Leonard, an actor who grew up on a farm and dreamed of performing on Broadway. Leonard made this dream come true and has performed in \u201cLes Miserables.\u201d He has won a screenwriting award for feature films and shorts, which have been distributed internationally. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Houlihan, an award-winning writer whose work has been selected by the N.Y. chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the \u201cArlene Dahl Play Reading Series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Cicely German, a WCSU alumna with a Master of Arts in English, is the former chair of the English department at Brewster High School.
