{"id":101,"date":"2019-07-17T18:17:52","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/2015-compassion-conference\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:17:52","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:52","slug":"2015-compassion-conference","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/2015-compassion-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"2015  Annual Compassion Conference opens Oct. 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\"> Annual Compassion Conference opens Oct. 2 at WCSU<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0\"><strong><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/compassioncreativity\/\">Center for Compassion, Creativity and Innovation<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> will hold its annual conference on <strong>Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015<\/strong>, on Western\u2019s campuses.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the \u201cCreating a Compassionate Community\u201d conference focuses on how to weave compassion into the community on the local, national and international levels. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conference combines macro (international and national) and micro (local and individual) approaches to understanding how we can create more compassionate and resilient communities,\u201d said Dr. Chris Kukk, founder of the Center and professor of Political Science at WCSU. \u201cFrom an award-winning film to a multi-award-winning author, our conference will provide the audience with the pictures, words and inspiration to strengthen their respective communities through one simple idea: compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The conference will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on <strong>Oct. 2<\/strong> with a presentation of the award-winning film <a href=\"http:\/\/weareplanetary.com\/\">&#8220;Planetary<\/a>,&#8221; in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/svpa\/svpa-center.asp\">Visual and Performing Arts Center<\/a> on the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension, Danbury, followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Oct. 3<\/strong>, the conference will move to the Ives Concert Hall, in White Hall on the Midtown campus, 181 White St., Danbury. At 11 a.m., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianeackerman.com\/\">Diane Ackerman<\/a>, New York Times bestselling author, poet and naturalist, will share her vision of a compassionate world and her view of human beings, whom she describes as \u201cthe tiny bipeds with the giant dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, representatives of the <a href=\"http:\/\/danburyhackerspace.com\/\">Danbury Innovation Center<\/a>, the Main Street space for inventors and entrepreneurs, will make a presentation on local innovation, followed by Alex Sheen, founder of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/becauseisaidiwould.com\/\">because I said I would<\/a>,\u201d an international social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the \u201cbetterment of humanity through promises made and kept.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p> For  conference details, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/compassioncreativity\/\">www.wcsu.edu\/compassioncreativity\/<\/a>.
