{"id":1016,"date":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/wcsu-westconndanburyschoolstopresentbridgesofpeaceandhopeconcert\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","slug":"wcsu-westconndanburyschoolstopresentbridgesofpeaceandhopeconcert","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/wcsu-westconndanburyschoolstopresentbridgesofpeaceandhopeconcert\/","title":{"rendered":"WestConn, Danbury schools to present Bridges of Peace and Hope concert April 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  Children\u2019s folksinger John Farrell will join a cast of 280 performers from Danbury schools, Western Connecticut State University and the Greater Danbury community in a \u201cBridges of Peace and Hope\u201d concert to be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Farrell, internationally acclaimed for his children\u2019s shows and concerts and his diverse talents as a musician, songwriter, storyteller and educator, will sing \u201cIf I Wasn\u2019t Me, I Would Be You\u201d and other selections on the theme of peace-building in schools and society. The concert also will feature performances by the New Hope Baptist Singers and a Nigerian drumming group.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Most of the concert program will be presented by the large cast of student performers from WestConn, Danbury High School, and several middle and elementary schools in Danbury. Participating schools include Broadview Middle School, Stadley Rough and Roberts Avenue elementary schools, and St. Joseph\u2019s Preschool.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">Admission will be free, and the public is invited to attend. The concert is part of a continuing project supported by the WCSU President\u2019s Initiatives Fund to further the development of the Peace Curriculum program in the Danbury public school system, and to promote music literacy at all grade levels within the framework of the \u201cBridges of Peace and Hope\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0\">WestConn Professor of Education Dr. Darla Shaw, coordinator of the project, has conducted workshops and consultations with teachers at participating Danbury schools since the beginning of the school year last fall. The April 7 concert will mark the culmination of months of preparation and rehearsal by students and teachers at the participating schools.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJohn Farrell will be performing with students who have spent a year developing lyrics, movements, poems and projects to promote peace,\u201d Shaw noted. \u201cThis performance will offer the children\u2019s interpretation of what it takes to make this a more peaceful and better world.
