DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The Western Connecticut State University<\/a> Veterans Writing Project will hold its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016<\/strong>, and veterans of all ages from all branches of the military are invited to join.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 226 of the Student Center on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury and will be led by Assistant Professor of Writing, Linguistics & the Creative Process Hunter Liguore.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dr. Sharon Young, faculty adviser to the campus Student Veterans Organization<\/a> and assistant professor in the WCSU Department of Social Work<\/a>, said that the project will be community-building, as veterans share their experiences through this writing network.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a young social worker, I was taught to learn about people by asking them to tell a story: Tell me a story about how you got your name. Tell me a story about when you joined the military. Tell me a story about coming home,\u201d said Young, who also works as an embedded clinician with an infantry unit in the Connecticut National Guard<\/a>. \u201cOur stories define who we are and mark our triumphs and tragedies. Story-sharing creates a community, a shared burden and a shared joy.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The group is set to meet until the end of the semester at which time, Young said, it will set a goal as to how to contribute written work for publication and whether to continue the project. <\/p>\n
