{"id":1038,"date":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/wcsu-to-host-best-darn-jazz-club\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","slug":"wcsu-to-host-best-darn-jazz-club","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/wcsu-to-host-best-darn-jazz-club\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2016 &#8211; WCSU to host Best Darn Jazz Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\"> Western Connecticut State  University<\/a> will present the \u201cBest Darn Jazz Club in Danbury\u201d at 8 p.m. on <strong>Friday, Sept. 30, 2016<\/strong>, in the Colonial  Corner inside the Student Center (formerly the downstairs caf\u00e9 and snack bar)  on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Best Darn Jazz Club will feature opening act, saxophonist  Josh Walker, followed by featured act, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therecessbureau.com\">The  Recess Bureau<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Created in July 2015  by WCSU alumnus, bassist and band leader Jeff Moro, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therecessbureau.com\">The Recess Bureau<\/a> explores the possibilities of jazz improvisation with an array of grooves  inspired by many genres of music. The collective currently holds 10 members and  is constantly expanding. With musical influences from Snarky Puppy, A Tribe  Called Quest, James Brown and Led Zeppelin, the band offers an eclectic blend  of jazz,  rock, funk and fusion.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>According to Dean  of Students Dr. Walter Cramer, the jazz club started as a way to showcase the  student talent at WCSU while also \u201cbuilding bridges between the school and the  community.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole point  initially was to create a place where we can have our students perform, then it  expanded to alumni,\u201d Cramer said. \u201cThere really isn\u2019t another place in Danbury  where you can see this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Complimentary snack food will be provided for attendees.  There will also be a cash bar for those 21+. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Admission will be free for WCSU faculty, staff, students and  alumni only. There is a $5 cover for the general public.
