{"id":1040,"date":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/wcsu-wins-11-kcactf-awards\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:09","slug":"wcsu-wins-11-kcactf-awards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/wcsu-wins-11-kcactf-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2017 &#8211; WCSU wins 11 KCACTF awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western  Connecticut State University<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/theatrearts\/\">Department  of Theatre Arts<\/a> hosted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcactf1.org\/\">Region One  Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival<\/a> (KCACTF) in late January  for the second year in a row, and the outcome proved that \u201conce-in-a-lifetime\u201d  occurrences can happen more than once. Western again had the opportunity to  show off its stunning <a href=\"http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/svpa\/svpa-center.asp\">Visual and  Performing Arts Center<\/a> and at the same time demonstrate the talents of its  students with a festival performance of \u201cThe Drowsy Chaperone,\u201d the musical  theatre program\u2019s fall production.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s 14 national KCACTF awards  for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/newsevents\/theatre-arts-department-awarded-highest-honors.asp\">Parade<\/a>\u201d  was unprecedented for any university theatre arts program. This year\u2019s  production of \u201cThe Drowsy Chaperone\u201d earned 11 national awards from the KCACTF  judges and an invitation for director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/theatrearts\/howard.asp\">Tim Howard<\/a> and student  Jillian Caillouette, of Meriden, to attend the national KCACTF festival in  Washington, D.C., to accept the awards next month.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Western\u2019s awards this year include: <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Outstanding Production of a Musical \u2013 \u201cThe  Drowsy Chaperone\u201d\u00a0<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Outstanding Director of a Musical \u2013 Tim Howard\u00a0<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Outstanding Choreography \u2013 Elizabeth Parkinson\u00a0and Scott Wise<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Outstanding Ensemble of a Musical \u2013 \u201cThe  Drowsy Chaperone\u201d<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Outstanding Performance by an Actress in  a Musical \u2013 Jillian Caillouette<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Performance by an Actress  in a Musical \u2013 Shaylen Harger<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Performance by an Actor in  a Musical \u2013 Ryan J. Taylor<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Performance by an Actor in  a Musical \u2013 TJ Swetz<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Performance by an Actor in  a Musical \u2013 Sergio Mandujano<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Performance by Actors in a  Musical \u2013 Manuel Torres and Jaret Starkey<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Distinguished Costume Design \u2013 Sharon Sobel<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly proud to be selected  by KCACTF for the second year in a row,\u201d Howard said. \u201cAfter the success of  last year\u2019s historic and heart-rending \u2018Parade,\u2019 I really wanted to expose our  students and audiences to a completely different style of theatre. We are  thrilled the festival has acknowledged our hard work with these national awards.\u00a0    <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be invited to attend  the\u00a0National Awards Ceremony again this year,\u201d Howard added. \u201cThis gives  extraordinary exposure to our university, the School of Visual and Performing  Arts, and specifically to our B.F.A. in Musical Theatre program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><em>Western Connecticut State University  offers outstanding faculty in a range of quality academic programs.
