A reception for Wallace will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, in the gallery on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The reception will be free and open to the public. The gallery hours will be Mondays through Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&#013;<br \/>\n  \u201cJohn Wallace has been an inspiration and a mentor to generations of students at WCSU,\u201d said Western Professor of Art Margaret Grimes, describing his paintings as ambitious and stunningly original. She said the artist\u2019s more recent works \u201cblend astronomical, astrological and mythological elements in an expression of the infinite and spirituality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0\">&#013;<br \/>\n      Wallace, who received a B.F.A. from Washington University and an M.F.A. from Indiana University, taught at Western from 1982 through 2009 and was co-coordinator of the M.F.A. program from 2000 thru 2009. He also studied at Skowhegan, where he received a Margaret Tiffany Blake fellowship for creating a fresco in the choir loft of the South Solon Meeting House, which is now a historic landmark. He is also the recipient of a Huntingdon Hartford Fellowship and a Roswell Museum Fellowship. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n  Western Connecticut State University offers outstanding faculty in a range of quality academic programs.
